selling a picture I took lol

some card making company wants to license a picture I took and posted on instagram. its just a picture of time squire(the big building with the giant tv). what kind of $ do I expect for something like this? I edited the picture in photoshop too.

any input is appreciated

First off, congrats on selling a piece!

Secondly, make sure that you keep the rights to the pic.  If they want full rights, the price goes WAY up.  Oh yeah, make sure it's all in writing.

I don't think a person retires from a picture they edited in Photoshop.    You should take this opportunity as a way to make contact with someone (them) that will want more of your pictures.  Make sure its a good price and that you still have some way to use it in your portfolio as photographer/graphics editor.

BTW, why don't you post the picture along with the name of the company.

I kinda disagree with this. If its your first sale and you don't plan to ever do anything with that picture for profit, sell it kinda low. Its free money to you, and you have your foot in the door to sell them and others, more pictures.

I have watched the spiderman movies.. $200 bucks the going rate.. err wait that was a few pictures wasn't it?  back in the 80-90's i drew lots of fantasy art that was used in several fanzines. its really hard to judge a price (and that was 30 years ago).. different in so many ways. Picture / hand drawn art..  I got anywhere from $20 to $600 depending on the piece... and nope you dont get rich doing it (err unlesss you are really good). the $20 pieces could take hours to do, the one I sold for $600 .. wont even say how much time was in it.. but the date it was started, and the date i finished it where years apart ( no I did not work on it all the time).  I used to get paper from rolls of banner material that was 8 feet high and as long as I wanted.. I would hang it on my wall and draw and fill a 8foot by 8foot picture (again, over months or even years).. havent drawn anything in 10+ years now.. and am so annoyed i cant get a good grasp of using my PC to work with images.. there is so much talent here.. doing arcade art its sick.. now we got an aspiring photography master.. very cool.
