Harddrive Conundrumn - Ubuntu sees the drive, Windows does not

So,  currently dual boot right now with Ubuntu and Windows. I have a dedicated drive, (1tb) dedicated to all of my Steam stuff so it doesn't get mixed in with all of my OS and other documents. Just yesterday I went to use it, and the drive on my Windows 7 Os is no where to be found, on my Unbuntu drive I see the Steam Drive, and can explore all of its files. The drive has no SMART errors, so I am stumped. The Steam drive has also been checked with HDD Scan and had no Bad Blocks, and really no slow blocks either (X>150ms). This has happened before, but unplugging the drive and plugging it back in worked so Windows could see the drive again. ANother interesting tidbit is Windows could see my Linux Partion on my Linux drive (100GB to Linux, 800GB to NTFS) but that is gone in windows as well. However, it can still see my NTFS partion of the same drive.   Before it would see the Linux partition as something that needed to be formatted but now that is gone as well. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Some PC specs if it helps:

-i7 Sandy Bridge with Z67 chipset (yes, the ones that supposedly have the bad Sata controllers)

-4 HDD. 1 Hitachi(Win 07), 1 WD Green, 2 WD Black (Steam stuff is a black drive)

Also, if this is in the wrong thread then please move it. I was going to post to the software thread, but that looked like it was mostly for Mame/Mess/other emulators support.

Really doubt that would be the issue.

Sounds like a formatting problem. Check Administrative Tools\Computer Management\Storage\Disk Management

Is your drive present? Perhaps it is but is blank on the disk management and needs a proper windows format. I know you obviously don't want to format it. But just see if it shows up at all.

Has this problem always occured or has it just started?  I would recommend heading down the easy problem solving avenues first and (I know it sounds crazy but it's happened to me before) and try both a new power and sata cable.  If you are still getting the same problem I would assume that it is a hard ware issue and try plugging in each drive independently see if you get the same problem.  Then start to add each drive to the first drive that was plugged in to see what errors you get.  I can only assume that it's your Hitachi drive.  I am not a big fan of those Hard Drives.  Out of the three Hitachi drives I have had in each of the three of my Toshiba laptops I have had to replace each one within six months of getting the laptops new off of the shelves.  Let us know how it is going.

yup. exactly what CoryBee says here. If the drive isn't bad, you should in the very least be able to see that there is a physical volume  in the Disk Management properties menu there if windows has not associated the drive with a drive letter.

If all else fails, you can run Ubuntu again, reformat the disk with GParted and set it to a simple, standard format like fat32. Then jump back into windows and format it into something more palletable for windows like FATX or NTFS.

After reseating cables, and looking at DiskManagement I figured out why the Steam drive was not being recognized by Windows. When I went to install Linux, I must have put GRUB on the Steam games drive, thus making it unreadable in Windows. If anyone knows how to remove Grub from the drive and get it readable, that would be groovy. If not, then I will just wipe the drive and re-download the games I play (No big deal). At least my MAME Roms or Win 7 wasn't touched by the virus known as Linux  .

I know this is off topic of what I originally asked, and an entirely different problem, but I thought I mine as well ask it hear before starting a new thread.
Does anyone know of a good way to SORT, not repair Mame ROMS into different categories (IE, Working vs Non-Working ROMS, Pre 1990's ROMs)? I recently obtained a full collection, and a lot of the ROMS i don't want or need (Lot of Slot machines, mahjong machines, bootlegs, stuff like that.)

One last thing, sorry for not getting back to you all sooner, I have been configuring CGminer, hence the Linux partition. ( Can anyone guess which Coin I am mining?)

I was going to ask about your boot loader but you have a grasp on it.

As far as sorting ROMs I looked into this and then decided instead to use ROMLister to just create lists of the games I only wanted to show up in the FE.

Thanks Bailey for the link, however that is to repair windows MBR (something that i had to do thanks to grub installing on my windows drive), i mean just straight remove grub from my steam drive.

Thanks Kahlid for the suggestion, but i should have been more clear. I want to remove any non workin/ games in catagories i dont want. I am trying mame content manager plus, but it cant seem to delete any of my Roms....

You were plenty clear, I was just saying when I went down the same path I had more luck editing lists versus deleting roms.  Did you run Mame Content manager plus as an Administrator?
