i need to know what works and what dont...

did i forget to mention i am using a DIAL UP MODEM??

getting dsl is totally out the picture now espicially since i cant use kazaa anymore...

besides 60 bucks a month for internet is outrageous..

so please anyone tried any of the above mentioned games and gotten fullspeed with a 2 gigahertz processor??

dont bother replying if your gonna say try them for yourself..

i'll make it short does tekken 2 play at FULLSPEED and does it have SOUND?

I dont think you can expect Tekken 2 to play at Full Speed with sound at 2 ghz... i haven't tried it but i am willing to bet it won't fly that easily... i could be wrong.

I can say that Tekken 2 plays at full speed on my 2.4 Ghz P4. I'm running fastmame 0.77
It was playing around 75-90% on my 1.6 P4.
The Tekken games have no sound.

NFL Blitz '99 ran at like 10-40%.
If you want to play Blitz, just go buy the PC version of Blitz 2k. It's only like $5 and is a blast.

thanks bill...hmmm no sound for the namco games right??

that means soul edge or soul calibur and any tekken games is mute??...man i hope they figure out out how to emulate the sound chip on those boards

has anyone tried EHRGHEIZ yet does it have sound and play at full speed???

Don't hold your breath

I'd recommend Soul Edge on the PSX, Soul Calibur on the DC and SC2 on GCN/PS2/XBOX

The console versions are quite arcade versions, but they are close. There are many console emulators out there. I've tried ePSXe with a NHL Faceoff '97disc. Pretty cool stuff.

none of the new HD games run worth crap.
but we have been playing the hell out of the N64 NFL Blitz with project64. runs great.
not as detailed as arcade version, but who cares that much.

Most of the new games in the last few versions either don't work or run like crap.

What I don't understand is that with Mame they are striving for accurate emulation and won't add any speedup's to slow games yet I don't consider games running at well under 30fps on any computer available today to be accurate. There are many incomplete drivers that are enabled and partially or mostly working in MAME until the developers get around to them so I don't see why they can't add a few quick hacks to speed up slow games until hardware that will run them is out.

Adding all the beta drivers was also a disappointment I feel but I'm just being a jerk and complaining.

They run GREAT! So good infact that their isn't a machine today that can play them all... THAT GOOD!

You should be excited that they do this. But the info is now there... So if anyone wants to HLE them there might be a playable version soon.

All the hard part is done.

And in a few years... You will be playing them full screen, without hacks, near perfect! Just for upgrading your system.

I personally think mame goes too far into getting games playable.

1) They don't emulate the hardware... The emulate the hardware to get the game running. Example. You should be able to play all games without roms and the system should do what would happen if you removed the roms (many boards really do something).

2) They don't document the hardware well. Why? They add speedup hacks that make the software hard to read. It would be nice if you could learn more about the hardware by reading the code.

I think this would be a great use for mame, and would promote smaller, faster emulators to come out. And would probably help mame emulate some games faster (because they wouldn't be thinking speed hacks right away, but documenting)

Last....

Many of the mame dev. have complained about debugging a game that runs slow... Why? when a bug doesn't show up until the second level.... And that takes about 15 - 20 minutes to get there at 1-10fps... Well... Makes them just not to look at it closer...

So there is a limit.

at the rate the games are going games like crusing USA and mace the dark age wont even be playable with a 5 gigahertz cpu...accurate emulation....OK

what i dont understand is they say streetfighterEX does work yet it plays FINE in zinc...besuase they using the video cards to do most of the work..

and carnievil will NEVER play at full speed not less you have a 5 or 6 gigahertz computer..

no theyre not accurate..does anyone remeber the early verisions of MAME when the had games like mortal kombat an street fighter 2 and street fighter 2 the movie..running FULL-SPEED on my sis's celeron 700 mhz.

i tried the newest version of mame on her computer.

playing the above metioned games are not even POSSIBLE even with sound OFF..

if they wanted to make them play at full speed on a 2 gig machine they WOULD..

instead they wanna make you wait...

like they had KOF2002 on mame32 then they took it off...

go figure......

heheh, were really mame bashing huh? Well I do like Mame a lot, so many games so little time especially if I take it over to a friends house...there just isn't enough time to beat more than a few games. But of course as with anything it could be better. I in no way want the developers to stop doing what they are doing because they are doing a lot of hard work that most others aren't patient or capable enough to do.

I do hope they add some sort of 3D acceleration though. They are adding games that used 3DFX video cards and other 3D processing hardware, It only makes sense to take advantage of the PC 3D hardware since it serves the same purpose. I guess from the developers view they want to get the games emulated in MAME and then they have been succesfull in that one day everyone can look back and play the old arcade games that are long since dead and gone.

Makes sense. As a Mame user I guess I see it differently because I'm like a starved kid who just can't get enough and there are still thousand's of arcade games out there I haven't played

i agree that the MAME team is doing a great thing for arcade lovers everywhere. on the otherhand they really should let us at least have some 3d hardware useage or speed hacks. and technicly i own most of the fighting games on console that i want to play on MAME i just want them to work in my cab

I don't agree with a lot of this...

1) I believe generally games work OK/fast in ZiNc because either they employ some tricks to do so (ie not necessarilly accurate, which is MAME's main purpose - accuracy).

2) Who cares! Arcade games aren't MEANT to be played on PC's at all, the fact that we are lucky enough to play thousands of arcade games at full speed is great IMO. If I was a developer I wouldn't care that the people who play the games have to wait a few years to get a quick enough CPU - it really isn't the dev's problem.

3) Every version of MAME gets slower because the emulation is improved (often more CPU hungry) and more and more games are added (which slows it down also). This is why earlier versions played MK OK on your 700Mhz PC - why not get an older MAME version and play it if you are that bothered?

4) True. But they don't want to, why should they? The task is (generally) to get the game(s) emulated, regardless of how quick. If some optimisations can be made after then great.

5) Why would they want to make us wait?

6) They removed the game as it is too new. Better that than get into trouble over emulating a game still making money. Again use an older versions if you are that bothered.

That's the way I see it anyway

hmmm, so say Tekken 2 is running slow while using mame .77, im not sure what version it was added in , but could you go all the way back to like .50 and run it faster or does it have to be a version after its initial release in mame

Tekken 2 was only just added, so a bad example...

But a lot of people use MAME v0.36final, since this runs most of the classics quickly - very useful for old PC's (+DOS).

KOF 2002 was taken out because its dumb-assed moves like this that will get MAME ***SHUT DOWN***...

People tend to get pretty cavalier when it comes to talking about "how come game XXX isn't in mame!!"...never really thinking that many of the modern games could EASILY be released on a "collection pack" and still make a bunch of money for the company that owns them......the more people that build these things, the closer we get to the whole hobby being scrutinized.

Remember in 98 when everyone was going Mp3 crazy? ALl the mp3's in the world, all at your fingertips. Napster, Audio Galaxy....all free for the asking. Think of a song? Blam...its yours, free.
Not anywhere near the same today as it was then....same thing will happen to ROMS...

Alternatively, you could (politely) ask your pimp to stop taking all your money and then be able to afford real CDs.

I agree. Downloading full CDs is wrong. If you want the whole disc, go and buy it (I usually wait for sales so I don't have to pay the $17 or so asking price per album). As for singles, use a service like I-Tunes and pay the $0.99 for a track. Although, I still don't really like the limits on the number of my players that I can transfer the songs to through that service. I'm hoping that emulation will start moving in a similar direction (Star Roms is a good start and it will be interesting to see how it goes).

well if the music industry didnt crank up CD costs to unrealistic numbers maybe i would buy CDs. Plus i heard bands make hardly anything off the actual CD sales most of their money is made from concerts, which i go to and pay money for those tickets. I do buy the ocassional CD but only if i really like the band, i own every AFI CD including EPs cause they rock, but something like Jay-Z where he only has like 1 good song on the whole CD im not paying for that
