Fonts!
« on: November 05, 2013, 12:24:30 pm »
So, I've had this idea for a marquee in my head for awhile, but I'm having trouble finding what I'm looking for. Whats worse is I'm having trouble putting what I'm looking for in to words. For my marquee I want a fun, aggressive, almost comic-book-like font, and its going to say "Insert More Coins!"

I'm looking for somewhat of a brush stroke effect, similar to the Street Fighter 4 logo, but not so.... pointy. Something fun, and explody, similar to an Ace Attorney "Objection!", but not so bubbly.

The idea in my head would be a red-orange-yellow comic style explosion in the background, with the "Insert More Coins!" splashed over it, just screaming: "This one, you're going to play this one."

Does this make sense or ring any bells or light any bulbs for anyone? I could really use some help finding something that fits the vague picture in my head.

Many of the font download sites offer tools to help you drill down to a particular type of font....

Blambot.com has a decent selection of free and pay fonts. All comic oriented.

Another couple good resources are www.dafont.com and www.myfonts.com/WhatTheFont/

DaFont has a massive database and like most sites it lets you customize your search and preview all the fonts with the word or phrase your trying to make.

The What the Font tool is bad ass because you can upload an image of a font you like and it can help you trace down what it's called and where to get it.  They have an iOS app as well that I used all the time when I see a typeface used that I really like and want to use later.
