Plan to buy a first generation SEGA Hang-On cabinet.

It looks like an upright, but in fact its a sit down, just the bench is missing (at the moment).

Do you guys see any chance to find reproduction artwork for that game or is it just too uninteresting for the collectors scene?

Ps.: Its a sample-image of an upright but the sideart is the same....

I have the sit down stand up cab and the red swoop is out there but AFAIK not the smaller technical art down below.

I have not looked too closely at the technical area but the larger portion is just brushed on. I can clearly see the brush marks. I also have a couple of damage areas that look like worn paint.

The artwork on the sitdown bike is, again, AFAIK not out there either. IIRC there was someone seeking repros here but ended up dumping the cab due to life issues. Oh well.

Edit: fixed glaring typo.

We are interested but....

I don't think you can disassemble the cab without irrevocably damaging the thing. Mine is in deep storage but I believe the entire cab is made from plywood with braked metal pieces on the curves. I want to say the metal is riveted in place but I believe it's just torx security screws.

Despite appearances, the upper half isn't designed to be removed without modification.

If you don't care to preserve the cab and wish to part it out. Contact me I might want a few pieces from one. B7t 8 digress, yeah you can take it apart and scan the art pieces.

If you wish to preserve the cab then you can set up a high quality digital camera (not a phone) on a tripod and carefully snap straight on shots. A ruler is a must to ensure correct scale. Don't skimp or wing the ruler. I see people skip the ruler a lot and an experienced eye can spot the resulting scaling problems easily. This is very common (a lot of scale modellers use this technique) so if you want really good tips, look aroundthose forums or howtos.

Now that i think about it....

If the bike is missing then that's a pretty big chunk of the cab. IIRC the control mechanisms are all located on the bike. What are your plans with this cab?

Woah... I finally caught on to what you're saying. I didn't even know there was a third version of this cab. I don't think I ever came across a manual that mentions this option.

What are your plans for this cab?

Sir, I added a picture of exactly what I am talking about now. It looks like an upright but its around 8" lower.
My one will miss the bench though...have to recreate one.

I dont want to slaughter the cabinet, I want to restore it to its former glory!

I dont think that there is any cabinet out there that could not be renovated and dont like the fact that people parting out atique cabinets.

Can you provide a link how to fotography artwork, please?
I still think the wooden box can be demounted and rebuilt.

I want to make sure that all the wood is perfect and all the metal-molding is straight and polished.
The artwork shall be fresh and bright and the handlebars freshly painted and with new grips.

Since I have time I do it carefully.
I have a list of around 30 motocycle- and jet ski- and quat-bike-games and hope I can at least run 80percent of them.

I have to add some buttons for view and stuff like that which I will add with double-sided-tape or I use the 4 knobs you can see in the second picture and build four round swichtes in there (altough they would need to be really small what I dont like but we will see that when I have it).

Yeah. Sorry. When I saw sitdown and the photo I figured it was confusion on sellers part. H-O sellers don't seem to know their cabs. When I got my cab, the seller swore up and down that it was a Super. Even threw in anextra board to convert it to a "standard" Hang-On. I've since identified all the interior guts and the seller was clearly clueless.

Back on track. No AFAIK  no Hang-On version has any sort of feedback system. I do not know about the Super HO.

The handle bars are a standard (for the 80's at least) diameter. If you want additional controls but don't want to trash the cover, look into the handle controls for luxury bikes or the shifters for others. ATV vehicles often have a different throttle and control mechansim than street bikes.

I'll have to dig around for a link on the photography of art. Give me a little time.

Sounds like something to consider adding to Felsir's stickied Artwork FAQ.

I do believe that add on peice (the motorcycle) was an option, I could be wrong however.... But that it where the missing art will really become a problem, the curves on the bike make it very difficult to get an accurate pic. For what you have there, the red swoosh is available (as stated earlier) but since Im a scanner kind of girl, Jenn would probibally try removing that lower piece carfully if at all possible, and using a scanner....Btw, of course that game is worth restoring, they all are. ::)

thats what I think too, every game is worth getting restored and this Hang On seems to be rarer than the motorcycle-bodied ones, especially the sit downs with a bench.

I have found an replacement handlebar for 40bucks, not cheap but with the cover I can safe the stock one.

Jennifer, if there is any part available please provide a link to it.

Super Hang-On definitely got a rumble pack from what I have googled,.

I have many of the art files, including the swoosh, that I collected while I was working on my own cab.

If you wish to have them, you will need to PM me and we'll have to set something up as they're fairly large.

Attached is a fairly technical article from artfulhome.com about photographing large art but it gives you an idea on how it's done. You don't have to do it exactly like that since something like the HO art would vectorized anyways. I just moved a bunch of files around and misplaced the HO research files that have two article/links specific to arcade art.

@Jen The bike is an integral part of that version, not an add on. There is a separate manual for either version cab, and apparently the bench version as my own copy of the HO cab makes no mention of a bench version.

I'm thinking the bench version was one that was offered later?

Savannah, Today I saw your PM, that board does not inform me the proper way  :-\

I will read in depth tomorrow and come back in touch then.

Since I started the restoration now I started a parralel-thread, hope you guys join in.
