Dual Screen Front-End?
« on: November 01, 2013, 05:17:46 pm »
Had a really cool idea for a future resto-mod, but trying to iron out some of the details if its possible.

Scenario:

One screen would be playing the actual game (obviously). Would prefer this to remain the original tube, but a LCD or CRT could work.
Second screen located above that could be used for game selection screen and possibly playing a movie during game-play.

Not sure if anyone has done something similar, and was curious if there were any front ends that allows secondary displays for their selection screens.  :dunno

I've heard a few people mention a second monitor for playing movies during gameplay? Why would you want to tie up extra computer resources/ram/cycles doing that while playing a game?  :dunno

Not a knock, my friend, just a question.

I had an idea to have a second display built into the marquee section mirror the onscreen display.  It wasn't very often I went to a real arcade, but sometimes I saw a group huddled around a machine and it would have been nice to see it, but I was a short kid, but I could see the marquee clearly.

No worries, my madness needs to be questioned from time to time  ;).
Not concerned about the extra resources needed, not newer game(s) this would be done on.  If you saw my idea you would be asking "why didn't anyone do this sooner!". I think it will add that extra wow factor I was looking to bring to a particular resto-mod. Problem is this cab is so far down my to do list I don't want to give too much away just yet.

I was originally looking for it to be a video screen, but a friend mentioned possibly having the game selection menu on the 2nd screen as well. Got the gears turning and hence the post.
