Well that only took 5 years.  From what I'm told it's typing of the dead mode as well as lightgun mode.  I haven't bought it yet but that's pretty cool.

it supposed a mouse, so any gun that acts like a mouse should. Its on sale on Steam for 9.99 right now, you can get it at greenman gaming for 8. it'll be $20 tomorrow.  My fiancee is MUCH better at the game than I am.

Yeah it says "switch between typing of the dead and house of the dead modes" on the first page of the online manual.

http://cdn3.steampowered.com/Manuals/246580/TOTDO_STEAM_MANUAL_ENG.PDF?t=1383065732

Now as to if "lightguns" means dual mice or not I don't know, but I can fix that.  ;)

*edit*

The manual states it supports a mouse (so no dual play) or gamepads, specifically 360 pads.  So I can work with it if we run into trouble.

I bought it a few days ago, and can't wait to try it! The last one honestly improved my typing speed.

Yeah it says "switch between typing of the dead and house of the dead modes" on the first page of the online manual.

I find it strange that it's not marketed as both games in one package.

I saw the game on sale and thought it was a shame that it wasn't the light gun version.  I just figured it was cheaper for Sega to turn a quick buck off the typing version without having to bother with an input system for joysticks or mice.

Just bought it.  I'll report back when I try it.

The GMG page says "*Two-Player co-op multiplayer coming shortly after launch as free DLC"
So probably no way to do two players until then, even with hacks.

Yeah I went ahead and installed it.

If you are wanting to install it on your mame cab save your money.  There is nothing wrong with the game itself, but it's one of those games that requires steam to launch.  I don't have a clue if it'd work offline or not.

Also something peculiar is the fact that when the game starts it defaults to "typing of the dead" and you have to fire at an option on the far right to switch to house.  In addition, things you do in typing to NOT carry over to house, so if you collect a bunch of stuff or finish levels in one, sorry for your luck, but they aren't unlocked in the other.  I couldn't get reload to work on the mouse either.  Not sure what is going on there, it might be a controller settings thing.

Something of note is that if you are into collecting the widgets, it's far easier on typing.  Just press tab any time an item is on screen to pick it up... no typing or aiming required.

I just stood to the left of Bonnie and wailed on TAB while she "played" and got all the collectables in the first level

It won't run on xp, or at least I'm pretty sure it won't.  Too many retro games I'd actually want to play keep coming out for 7 and above.  I've given up at this point... I'm going to build a new rig that runs 8 stripped of it's menus.

Yeah, it needs at least directx10.  I followed a couple tutorials online that supposedly added dx10 to XP.
When dxdiag was run, it would report that I was running dx10, but no dx10 game ever worked.

When I bought a $3 game at Ollies Bargain Outlet and it wouldn't run on XP due to requiring DX11, I decided it was time to move on.

So I've played the game a lot at this point.  I would say it's a fairly faithful port and the typing mode is actually surprisingly good.

One thing that annoys me is the menus have been re-done, for the worse.  When you die you get the "you are dead" message with a very generic looking prompt to continue that for whatever reason is on the left side of the screen.  My guess is they've done this in anticipation of 2 player mode... p1's stuff is on the left ect.... but in single player mode they should really have centered it.  Also the intro and title screen from the Wii version is gone, which is strange because the video is still included.

From what I understand a very small team did this port under terrible circumstances, but issues are still issues.

The game supports both mouse and joystick support, but I think for our purposes the joystick support will have to be hacked via the troubleshooter.  The joystick mode is relative, not absolute, so for joystick-based lightguns it wouldn't work.  I'm still waiting on a cracked version that doesn't require steam before I start on this, as well as hacking the game to start in House mode instead of typing mode.

Well me wanting to work on it and being able to is a different thing unfortunately.

I fired up the old cheat engine and steam is having none of it. It might be possible to hack once steam is removed from the equation, but presently I can't do anything with it.  :(

But you know, this port begs the question... are were ever going to get a PC port of HOTD 4?
