  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
Mame Roms, Frontends etc.
« on: October 28, 2013, 07:30:53 am »
Hi guys,
I am also at the point where my mame bartop arcade, hardware wise is almost finished.
I have kinda left the software side to the end, and that is what I am going to tackle now. I have already installed windows 7 pro 64bit, and I have tried Hyperspin (runs like a dog), Mala (lots of work to set up) and Maximus Arcade (a paid option).
So far, I think I like the ease of Maximus Arcade, and as I have a 30 trial, I think I am gonna try it out extensively. Has anyone got any pros or cons with going with Maximus Arcade??

And another question.... I have Mame64 147 with Roms. I know that 150 is the latest one, and most of the roms do not work with 150. First of all, should I bother upgrading to 150? What kind of changes happen with the mame upgrades? If I do upgrade, how to I make the roms work with 150?? Do I need to redownload them? Also is there a way of removing all the mahjong, fruit machine, quiz roms etc from my Roms?

Thanks in advance...

Nick

Use RomLister to filter down to a specific set of roms that
a) leaves out those genres you're not interested in (Mahjong for instance)
b) leaves out those roms that you can't play on your hardward anyway (trackball games where you don't have a trackball, for example).

I'm running Mame 129, have been for a long time. Staying on the upgrade wheel can be tough and generally speaking, most of the older classic games have worked for a LONG time. It's the later games, using 3d hardware or specialized chipsets that get the attention in later Mame builds. So unless you +have to have+ the latest and greatest, just stick with the build and set you have. However, the program clrmamepro is what your looking for as for Rom Management. Be warned, though, it's not the easiest thing to use in the world. Be sure to make backups of your rom set. It'd suck to take a working 147 set and bust it while trying to get it to 150.
