Bought a nice 27" Tri-sync

I am really excited to have made my first purchase of my first project,  Picked up a recapped WG 9200 - looking clean, and from a standup guy. Couple hundred bucks. I'd be surprised if the rest goes as pleasantly. Hopefully I have here a good one. he showed me around his digs, lots of monitors, opposite of a rat hole. A meticulously restored rare Atari Lunar Lander with a bright vector screen, that thing was incredibly perfect, was the centerpiece, watch for it on ebay soon. On the hunt for a large cabinet , GT, NFL Blitz, or something).

That thing looks cherry, nice find! 

I wish I was so lucky as I would love one for my Blitz/Showtime cab (around my area something like that would be $400+ if it even existed to begin with).

Nice find! In Ontario I found a 27" tri-sync in frame, new old stock, for $450.

Alas, my Taito cabinet is too narrow to hold it.

Only thing to worry about with the D9200 is that they're famous for destroying themselves when certain things break.  If it starts acting funny, you'd best shut it down and investigate promptly.  Letting it continue to run risks catastrophic failure bordering on "not work fixing" in some cases.

Aside from that, they're pretty capable and not bad for a "modern" arcade monitor.

How is the geometry on yours? Mine has a bit of a curve on the bottom 1/3 of the picture so I might be looking at a cap kit. Which would suck, because there are around 75 caps!

So, just yesterday I plugged in the WG D9200 , and I heard a loud snap. It had been taking a few "plug-unplug-plug in again" cycles for it to fire up previous to this happening. Really, I must have only 10-20 hours on it since buying it last October. I hope the monitor guru I bought it from takes pity on me. It was such a great monitor until this happened. I looked it over and can't find anything that looks burnt or cracked.

every last 1 of the d-series will go weird...
it is that simple..
on the chassic u will find a 8 pin eeprom..
this chip go's south..for the simple reason >static<,tube dis-charge..
replace that chip >pic 24-xx or 93-xx< with a blank
once u have done that,and let the mointior re-load it's os.on board eprom info..
and u are happy ?,shut down and cover it with tin foil or 2 sided tin foil tape.
this will fix your problem..do not short the tin foil out..just cover the chip,
this way it will not see the "static"..it was a commen fix in rca's/zenith's..
be fore warned DO NOT COVER THE LEG'S WITH TIN FOIL,just the top...

reason fore this is easy..
the eeprom carry's all of your saved data..all of it..once it goe's south and it will
it cause's all of the listed problem's...

next the problem with the bending,at the bottom
if u had the same said monitor "banged"/"dropped"/"cab-dropped-bang-kinda ?"
chk your yoke..u can tell by just touching it to see if it will move?,if it dose
this is another commom problem..i can and did walk ppl through the fix

I don't have any, nor do I have a schematic, so I can't really say for sure, but the anecdotes seem to indicate it's not as bad as the D9200.  It fails just as often (which is to say frequently) but tends to not take the whole damn deflection board out when it goes, it seems.

Does it do anything, now?  Sounds like the anode cap was not properly seated.  If you're unlucky, it arced to the yoke, which tends to kill everything.  If you're lucky, it arced to a solid ground point, in which case you might have lost a few components but can probably get it back up and running.  Of course, be sure the anode is properly seated first.

Well I guess my 9200 is back in action again!
I was going to send the chassis to Chris at arcadecrt.com, so I removed the neck board from the yoke, then got the idea to put the neck board on once again and try it. I guess it needed to be reseated cause it fired up after I did that.  for now.... I'll be back when it breaks again.

Funny, my in-menu brightness control does absolutely nothing now turned all the way up or down - contrast and the rest work fine. And yes, I did try to reset to factory, which did nothing. Brightness only needed to be adjusted up a little, so I used the screen knob on the flyback - the colors on this monitor are just stunning in games! I had been using a 32 lcd tv, which I was getting used. But there is no comparison.  Hope I can figure out what the deal is with the brightness control, but will be happy if it keeps running regardless.

another word of warning for the D9200/9400 series monitors.

I've spoke with an engineer from wells about this particular monitor series. it has a pretty sizable flaw in it's design.

The TL;DR is: the monitor fails, but the power supply is unusually designed and continues to drive everything and doesn't cut out. (due to overcurrent or over/under voltage) this causes LITERALLY dozens of parts to be blown from a simple dried out cap or blown HOT.

if it fails, immediately unplug the monitor and seek help.

Monitor your caps and the operation of the unit.

if it starts doing weird things, shut 'er down and seek help.

Had a d9200 that had a couple swolen caps...not a big deal... except it took out 1/2 of the components on the board because it got left powered on. I lost count at 20 different components (diode after diode, chip after chip) I found dead... and replaced... AND STILL didn't get it working. I eventually had to give up on it after spending weeks on it.

the biggest issue with the d9200 monitor is the deflection coil,the build quality is very poor and they short-once this happens it will take out the HOT,a few FET's and some resistors
only way to tell if the deflection coil is bad is to remove it and inspect

i would class the build quality on this monitor as dogshit
