Philips 28" SCART RGB jittering
« on: November 01, 2013, 10:53:42 am »
Hi
I got some great tv for retro gaming. It works really nice with avga connected to scart rgb. There is however slight jittering sometimes on the screen. It is not big however and it is not constant. I can see this only when I am close to the screen, and only in some areas of the display, depending also on the displayed background. It is not big trouble, but when I sit close to the screen it is sometimes visible. The screen is "wavy" just a little. Is it normal for all 15 khz tv in scart rgb mode? Maybe the big tube (28") exemplify that?

Sounds like you're using an interlaced resolution

TV modell is european 50/60 hz Philips 28PT4557 https://cache.osta.ee/iv2/auctions/1_1_15812869.jpg
Cable and AVGA (9200 model) is doing great, because on different tv in 15 khz everything is stable all the time. When I connect dreamcast via scart rgb to Philips I also got this little random jitters (was trying 240p in street fighter 3 2nd impact). Still it is not so big problem, I wonder if this jitters can be avoided by regulating B+ or maybe is it because of some interferences.

Is it mainly in the corners? Could be the the degauss coil stuck on. Try disconnecting the degauss connector from the chassis

No it can be anywhere on the screen. Maybe I am just overreacting and when displaying 240p in 15 khz on big tubes, always image is shaky a little here and there? Still you need to look close to see it.

Assuming I understand your description, one of my small 14" TV's does this, and I never worked out why. It is an issue with the TV rather than the source though, as it affects even the TV's OSD with no source connected.

I haven't seen this with any other TV, and actually this one I have has such a good picture otherwise that I use it anyway. Nobody else has noticed it incidentally...
