Vending machines
« on: October 18, 2013, 12:05:40 am »
While not something most people have in their game room / man cave, I wouldn't mind getting a used soda machine. Something to keep sodas and beer cold.

Now I won't be getting one anytime in the foreseeable future but I had what I thought was a great way to tie it in with a gaming theme. Get a custom graphic printed for the front resembling one of the vending machines in Borderlands 2.  I have seen a few pics online were someone based a machine off of the Ammo dump machine but I don't think it looked right because of the style of machine it was on.  IMO it would have to be a newer type machine with the full backlit front.

But my personal favs would be either of these.

Sorry if the pictures are either too big or too small. It's hard to tell on a phone what the proportions are.

The good thing is with a quick search of craigslist you can find several in the $400 range. Weather that's good or not I don't know.

Haha, I like the borderlands machines. I bet some machines could be rigged to dispense bullets if you had the right container. Probably not that safe though.  :lol

I got a free vending machine from a grocery store that upgraded, It was a nice vendo 720 can/20oz bottle machine with a lenticular front that showed A&W or Sunkist depending on the angle you stood at. It had a bad computer board, but otherwise awesome shape. Still, after moving it to my current house 7 years ago, it just hasn't been worth the hassle for me to fix up. It is easily 700 to 800 pounds empty, and I can't imagine it full. I am afraid to move it to my basement because I worry I won't get it back up. I am afraid if I put it on my main floor because I think it will damage my house from sheer weight. I keep it in my garage, and it has sat there doing nothing for years. I took the door off and that is the only way it is easy enough to move.

If somebody wants mine, it is theirs for free if they will pick it up. I am sure it is worth at least a couple hundred in parts, or an easy enough fix. I lost all ambition to do anything with the machine.

For people thinking of a game room machine, I recommend just investing in a smaller vintage machine. I think those go for more in the $1500 range.

Thanks for the link Ark, but Vigo said free.  That's about where my budget is these days.

Those things are really expensive to run relative to the fun they provide.  Do a little math on the power consumed + cost to acquire and then compare that to a simple dorm fridge.  Almost everybody I know chose to save that money and use it on games instead.

That's a killer idea.  I've been looking for one of the small wall-mount beer dispensers for a while now (at a good price), I may just up my efforts, one would look cool done up like one of these.... I like them because you can turn them on for a party, and shut them down when not in use.  I had 2 fridges in the bar for parties, but now one is for kegs, which got me back on the 'beer dispenser' train.  This is actually a really good idea.
Back for nostalgia, based on nostalgia.

you could probably get yourself a small bar fridge (2.5 or 3 cu ft.) and have a local print place print up a large vinyl decal that you could apply to the front to make it look like a vending machine (with buttons and everything.)

just my 2 cents.
