Recording in game video with groovymame
« on: October 09, 2013, 05:55:36 am »
I want to make some MAME youtube videos. I haven't previously recorded anything with regular MAME, but I read about its AVI recording function, and I think my computer is fast enough to do it on the original game resolutions.

But I have a dedicated GroovyMAME (Windows) pc (soon to be cabinet), and I wanted to use this, instead of running everything in another computer. Will groovymame function as regular MAME on this one? Will it record AVIs on the original framerate, even if its something other than 60fps? If the AVis are sped up/rounded to a "standard" framerate is also fine, I just want to avoid any kind of jerking/tearing on the videos. I can do converting of the framerates when editing in order to make a smooth youtube video though, so having the original framerate would be the best.

Also, I remember using HLSL before getting a proper CRT monitor, and the result was awesome. Since the videos I want to create will also be in HD, it would be awesome to use this effect, instead of doing a simple stretch, or blurry resizing. There is no way my computer would be able to handle realtime recording of uncompressed 1080p, so the effect will probably have to be applied after the recording.

I use Sony Vegas, but I also have Adobe CS if it can help on this. Any suggestions?

I've no experience recording videos with GroovyMAME, but at least in theory it should be just the same as normal MAME. Let us know about your results.
Important note: posts reporting GM issues without a log will be IGNORED.
Steps to create a log:
 - From command line, run: groovymame.exe -v romname >romname.txt
 - Attach resulting romname.txt file to your post, instead of pasting it.
