Need an LCD monitor? Here's a great deal I found
« on: September 27, 2013, 05:03:06 pm »
I'm putting together a slim form cabinet and ruled out a CRT for all the typical reasons, size, weight, cost, future-proof, etc..  I bought a 27" Asus monitor with 1ms refresh and an excellent rating on Display Lag.  It looked amazing.  My only worry was even at that size with 16:9 ratio vertical games were just a bit small.  I want PacMan and vertical games to be 19" diagonal.  I was going crazy deciding what to do then I saw Display Lag had an excellent rating on a 32" Samsung HDTV that was only $239.  Here's the link: http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0078LSTWU/?tag=dislag-20.  I set it up yesterday and it's an insane deal for that money.  Naturally if you're close you're going to see individual pixels but at an average viewing distance and given the resolution and look of most old games it's very good looking.  Running at it's native resolution text and images look great and there's no streaking or blur I see of any kind.  PacMan measures at exactly 19" diagonal.  I'm even thinking of rotating it so the cab isn't so wide and the screen isn't quite that big as I"ll be close but I'll have to experiment.  Only slight thing I noticed was on Tempest the long tall vector lines were slightly chopped but I'm really getting picky and when the game is playing you don't notice anything.  Actually, you'll notice that on just about any monitor.  But let me say, I appreciate the purists with scan lines and all that but that's not me or this monitor.  I just think this looks good for what it is and at that price is crazy cheap.

What I really wondered about was whether an HDTV would be any good versus a computer monitor and I'm going with this HDTV.  Worth a look.
