Nintendo Sharp XM 1801N Trapezoid / Convergence Issue
« on: September 27, 2013, 12:22:28 am »
You know..I think this is my first post here.   :blah:

Nintendo red tent w/ the dual Sharp XM 1801N monitors.  To begin with, one looked great with a slight jitter, the other had a very faint image.  After turning up the bright a bit, I could see the image had a wicked trapezoid shape.  It also had a weird convergence thing going where the image is aligned toward the center on the lower half of the screen.  Immediately to the left and right of center the colors would bow outward.  I recapped both monitors and the one with the jitter looks awesome.  The one with the  trapezoid looks better in terms of color enhancement still has that issue.  I pulled the chassis again and looked closer and seen 3 cracked solder joints around the horizontal width coil.  My eyes are getting old, helps to use a magnifying app on the phone now.  That didn't help the issue. Naturally I assumed yoke.  I checked the ohm values across the lines and the red/blue was 6 and the yellow/green was 15.  I'm unsure if that's proper.  It seems okay.  Slights movements on the yoke or the purity / convergence rings seems to have no effect, so I'm weirded out.  I do not know what the B+ is as it's very difficult to test in that cabinet (in the process of building a test rig).  Any ideas?  If anyone would like to see a pic, let me know.  Thanks!

Would love to see some pictures!!

How long have you given it to warm up? AFAIK they could need an hour.

And isn't there a trapezoid calibration somewhere?...

Hi, thanks so much for the response!  Here are some pics:

I don't know if that helps any.  It's a red tent, worse case scenario I could swap the chassis to lock it down to the tube or the chassis.  Thanks in advance for any advice! If you cannot view the photos, let me know and I'll find another way to post them.

??? Still at a loss.  Pulled the chassis again and will look tomorrow.  Has anyone ever seen an issue like this related to B voltage?  I'm just looking for a good place to start.  Thanks in advance.
