Best equipment / technique for scanning cabinet art

So I recently got word from an overseas member of the KLOV forum that he wants to help in the restoration in the 6-Player X-men art. 
Problem is, getting the artwork scanned in a usable format and in the best possible resolution for him to work with.

The cabinet is huge, and I would assume scanning would give much better results than taking straight on shots from a DSLR. Taking an old flatbed to the art seems tedious and may not get the best results, but what do I know. 

I've been looking for some quality wand scanners that aren't outrageously expensive and came across this:

Scans up to 1050dpi, but only in a jpeg and pdf format.

So far I haven't been able to find anything better. I recall another member here showing off something similar scanning original TMNT art, but can't find the video.

Looking for feedback if this would be something worthwhile to use for the restoration and if anyone else has used one of these, the best technique for scanning.

Yeah, that's the member. OK... wasn't aware of any issues. Please, PMs on any details (not fair to spread such info out in public view without the "court of internet forums" to preside over the post  ). Really no specifics were hammered out other than he wanted to work on the art.

But I know I'll need to do some scans regardless of who wants to work on it, hence the post. Hell, I'll take matters into my own hands and self teach in Photoshop/ illustrator or whatever if it comes down to it. But I don't want to drop the money on any tools unless they are worth it.

I get to keep all the artwork files from you that I never had and you don't even get one single digital copy!
Meanwhile I'll stamp my name over all sample works even though it doesn't belong to me.
In time I'll have an artworks database provided by you the community for free and I make money!

I banned him from here.  He's been banned from Arcade Otaku, Dragonslair forums, etc etc.

Even worse, with one member he had a deal to provide a print, then backed out, claiming the deal was basically lost in translation. I wouldn't deal with the guy at all.

I've tried. As soon as I got my cab back in May I e-mailed them. Then at least once or twice again since then. This was actually one of the first places I found online in reference to the 6-men X-men cab.

Never a response. Was told several people contacted them, even asking to buy a set, no response. After all the issues dealing with the video conversion in my cab I'm seriously questioning if they are still using the original board in that rebuilt HDTV cab or if they just Mame'ed it. No biggie if they did, (I'm close to that last straw feeling myself) but the posts really seam to indicate otherwise. I'll try e-mailing them again though.

The 2nd option actually has some stitching software to help in combining the scans. But I'm curious if I can just some other app that would be just as good if not better. I was thinking the higher dpi I can scan this in the better, but would there be that much of a difference from 900- 1050? Or are both of these options just no good for what I'm trying to do?
