Hantarex MTC 9110: Power, but no fan or signal
« on: September 13, 2013, 11:20:32 pm »
I recently modded a Lethal Enforcers cabinet into a Street Fighter 2 cabinet. From doing some searching I see this is a common problem that happens, but no one has seemed to of solved it yet. I was getting a blue image (with some purple magnetic looking interference in the top right) and then I flipped the only switch I noticed on the back to test what it was (it was the polarity switch) and then the fan stopped, and the image faded.

I seem to have the same problem as everyone else, here is what happens when I power on the monitor:
1. Static crackling like normal
2. Fan twitches (acts like it's going to spin then doesn't)
3. No image on the monitor

Things that I've read people have tried and have NOT worked are:
1. Full cap replacement
2. Full transistor replacement
3. Inspecting all over for burns/broken leads

So far I've yet to find someone fix this, and I'm pretty bummed out about it. Is this a junker now? I spent a lot of man hours on this damn cabinet and all of the sudden the monitor freaks out! It was working absolutely perfect prior. Any help at all would be great! I can't afford another monitor, and where I live the price would either be gouged or the shipping would be to high.

the only switch on a mtc9110 should be sync polarity, this should not affect anything but the sync signal

sounds like you are getting the usual problems associated with mtc9110/9000
is the big load resistor getting very hot?

whats your repair experience like?
whats your soldering like?

The big load resister is getting pretty hot, my repair experience with monitors is 0, my soldering is pretty terrible, but I can get the job done if I need too (I've only solder repaired a contact on a board once).

What do you think the problem is? And thanks for the reply! If this takes a lot of repair and time but not a lot of money, I will definitely be down to learn the ins and outs on this (the cabinet with monitor only cost me 75 bucks). I don't live in an area where I can find a cheap arcade monitor (price gouging) and shipping on these suckers is quite high!

i think you are best off doing a shotgun job on this

First check for bad solder joints or cracks on the chassis

change/check the following components

TR20 TIPL762
TR15 BU508A
C54 22UF 200V
C56 1UF 160V
C34 22UF 160V
TH2 HR7025
R110 33K 1/2W
R90 270K 1/2W
C42 4.7UF 50V

don't get electrocuted

Thanks! I'll try not too! I did discharge the monitor after I removed it but I'll still be careful.
