Broken 42" Panasonic Plasma for $60. Did I get a deal?
« on: September 13, 2013, 04:51:41 pm »

So, I just scored a Panasonic 42" plasma TV, model #TC-P42C2, that the user claims doesn't turn on, and the power light flashes 10 times. I haven't done ANYTHING yet, but my first look is likely to read a bunch of the threads here and try and figure out if I can fix it.

My question is this. At $60, did I just score an amazing deal, or (with the limited information I have now) is it too soon to tell?

Thanks!

Could be a good deal - if you can identify and fix the problem cheaply.  Could be as simple as replacing bad caps or a loose connector on PSU.

Here's a link to the service manual for that monitor:
http://elektrotanya.com/panasonic_gph13du_chassis_tc-p42c2_plasma_tv_sm.pdf/download.html
Click on the "get manual" link to save as PDF.

Check out page 17.  It has a trouble shooting table which describes the error and advices on the checkpoints.
10 blinks indicates a problem with 1 or more of these boards: A-Board, SN-Board, SS-Board, P-Board
Section 7 instructs how to remove those boards.
This manual is your friend.

Probably you should first do a visual to see if there are any bulging or leaking caps to replace.
Obviously you need to be careful working with PSU especially near the larger caps.
Good luck.

badcaps.net, the people there are incredibly helpful with this type of stuff.

Thanks everyone, but I've got some bad news.

After making the deal to pick up the (originally $100) TV for $60, I started driving the 45 minutes to the location. Pulling into town, I received an email from the seller saying they got an offer for the full hundred, and the TV was no longer available.

Damn it! (I'm on my phone - someone put the "shaking fist" guy here in my post.) I'm so pissed right now.
