This idea has been haunting my brain for a few weeks when a particular cab came up on CL:In my quest for more cabs for the collection (while working on the larger, long haul projects on the back burner), I came across a DK Jr and got it for a decent barter. DK Jr, I admit, is not my favorite. But Nintendo cabs are rare to come up in my area that often, at least for a reasonable price. As much as I want a Fix-It Felix for my son, I won't convert a DK. So I was thinking of ways I could get more use out of the cab when I saw these:
http://www.vector-labs.com/index_dk.htmlA four way multi-nintendo board adapter??? Hmmm. The thought of a true Multi-kong cab was intriguing. And it would certainly help keep the number of physical cabs in the collection down. But I also have a Wide-Body Mario and "Red Tent" on my short list. If you could do this with one cab....

In comes a VS Dual Upright for sale. I almost completely forgot about these cabs. Like my X-Men, they were mostly trashed for being big and cumbersome. Even when new I thought these cabs were a cool concept, but looked very "meh" in grey and black. Back to the multi-board adapters. I see they also make PlayChoice 10 and VS adapters. How about one side "horizontal", one side "vertical"? And some better colors, reminiscent of Nintendo's previous cabs?:

Now THAT'S more like it!Mario Side:Playchoice 10
Nintendo VS
Mario Bros
Popeye
DK Side:DK (w DKII hack, if possible)
DK Jr
DK 3
(DKII board, if not switchable in original DK board)
Obviously, this is a -rough- sketchup. The control panels will have to be modified and custom marquees / overlays printed. But the cabinet will be the easy part. Sourcing all the boards, and the cost of all the adapters. My head hurts just thinking about it. But when done, this very well could be the ultimate Nintendo cab. Add a NES hack to the PlayChoice 10 and you got any game you could imagine (that was playable on a Nintendo cab, of course).
So the question is not if I'm crazy (yeah I think we all know the answer there) but what do you guys think? I think it's doable, if not an investment. Any thoughts on the concept, colors, design, game choices, etc? I don't even have the cab yet, but that hasn't stopped anyone else here from brainstorming before. Hopefully I can work out another barter and at least get the skeleton ready of this next creation soon.
