Advice on obtaining best picture for TV in my arcade cab
« on: September 02, 2013, 10:40:36 am »
I have a Toshiba 32" CRT TV, and a Windows Vista with VGA, DVI and S-Video outputs. The television has RGB, RCA and S-Video inputs. I want to use the RGB inputs, but I wasnt sure which would be my best option.

I've see the VGA to RGB cable, and then I read about converters. I'm assuming a converter is what I need, but can anyone point me in the right direction? Should I use the cable, or do I need the converter, or do I need both? Thank you for your help

Easiest route. Go svideo. U ain't gonna see much of a difference. If you want to use rgb for standard arcade resolution at 15khz, Get a vga breakout cable from ultimarc. 3 options: get an arcadevga3000, a card running soft15khz, or a card running calamity drivers.

There is an IMMENSE difference between RGB/component and s-video.  We are talking about an arcade-authentic native resolution picture with real scanlines vs. a blurry scaled and stretched picture in 480i with no scanlines.  mrcram does have a point that going native res will be more work though.

Agreed.  Calamity drivers refers to Calamity's CRT_Emudriver, which I would highly recommend over the other two options.

See the GroovyMAME section for more info.

Are you sure have RGB inputs?  Are you in Europe, or other non-US location?  If not, it is more likely component, which is not a problem, but a transcoder is required.

32" is pretty big, will it be in a showcase cabinet?
