Beatmania 1st mix.... is this offically in mame or not?
« on: November 17, 2003, 12:36:57 am »
And if so, what version was it added?  I would assume 0.75 along with the other beatmania's but i don't think it is...

Where did you find the info that says it was added in 0.77?  I can't seem to find it anywhere.  I see it on the gamelist.txt on mame.net but can't find it in the whatsnew.txt and of course mame.dk is gone so I don't know where to find that sort of info...

It's listed in Mame32 and the rom and chd were recently posted on the binary newsgroup. If you run ClrMamePro using Mame 0.77 it'll tell you that you're missing it.

Okay thanks.  Howard, how did you know that?  Just from memory?  Or Clrmamepro?  Take a look at Gordon's Rom Info page here:

http://mamerominfo.retrogames.com/

See those text files? He obviously doesn't type all that stuff by hand.  He's parsing something to get that infomation and I wish I knew what it was.  Since mame.dk is gone i have a hard time determining whats new, whats changed, what was added when etc...  Wish I knew what file(s) i need to parse to determine what I want to know...

I read each whats new text every single new MAME release, but maybe I am missing something because I haven't seen squat for new games for quite a few releases.  I see a lot of new supported clones, but I haven't seen any new games like Beatmania or stuff like that.  Is the whats new text that everybody posts here on this board missing something or am I just blind?

I was gonna say the same thing... I have looked through the whatsnews.txt on mame.net, even under the 0.76u* releases and I don't see anything about beatmania.  Maybe i'm just missing something here...

Is there anyway to tell with the mame executable what new games have been added and what games have been changed/removed?

Sorry, I thought it was in there.  I guess it used to be a test driver prior to the gamelist overhaul.

You see now we don't have testdrivers, we have all games added in the normal gamelist.  And some with "not working" flags.

Why is this an issue?  Because the only, and I mean the only way you can get a list of non-working games is to use mame's -gamelist command, which is very obscure and not used by any front ends or developers.  So when a non-workign game is upgraded to working status it can often get overlooked and not added to the what's new text.

I understand why the mame developers made this drastic change, but it's quite annoying for all parties involved, including the developers themselves. I had to re-write parts of the fe because of it.

Ok I'm done.

Thats not really the issue I'm having.  Ever since mame.dk went away I don't know really where to look to find a reliable source for determining what the new / changed / removed roms are for releases now.  The best thing I have found seems to be Gordon's Rom Info but he doesn't always stay up to date.  Anyways, in the future I'd like to not have to rely on websites to tell me wha the new / changed / removed roms are for future releases.  Isn't there someway to tell this information from the mame.exe?  Or from some dat file?  I mean, look at the text files on that Gordon's Rom Info website... they are very detailed files that go through each new / changed / removed rom for each new release.  The guy obviously doesn't sit there and type all that stuff out.  He is parsing that information automatically from somewhere.  I just want to know what his source is so I can do it myself... see what I'm getting at?  The whatsnew.txt files on mame.net have become confusing and somewhat cryptic unless you are a developer :-(

I think I am looking for something different than you are Jako.  I just want to see what cool new games are being included each release, so I know whether to bother my Tombstoner friend to get me some new update discs.  I haven't seen any good new games added for probably 5 releases, but now it seems like maybe they were in there and I wasn't seeing them, and now I am way out of date :(

If your looking for a dat file that gives you the date added the only accurate one is the catlist file found on triggerfins page.  The rest of the data can be parsed out of mame's various game lists.
