Aye a bit. It's the local PBS station so it's legit, should be interesting.

Local TV station just called and want to do a spot on home automation so they're going to come over to the new house and interview me about why I'm considering it and what I'm interested in, I guess they must have found this thread then contacted me through the Arcade Icons web site.

"Give me your address there."

Lots of people have added in stuff to their wifi enabled stuff one great thing that I will be doing soon is Virtual blinds (Just smart film) it's wifi enabled film that lets you make a window see through or solid and that can be added onto vera no problem.

I must know more about this. Is this like a tint film that can change its opaque-ness on command?

This. Is. Awesome.

Sorry guys I totally forgot I posted this  :dizzy:

I was talking about Sonte

FYI, Aeon Labs has a z-wave film in the works.

Also, what automation software are you running on the tablets?

You are correct there is a z-wave version coming soon I'll be interested to see that one too but the sonte one is pretty good price

I am running a few different things depending on what I want to do.

Specifics on the setup below

So below are the android Apps I downloaded
ADW Launcher
IP Cam Viewer
Yatse
WiFi Talkie Lite
Home Buddy

So ADW is a new home screen app and I have set it up for 3x3 columns and rows

ADW lets you change the icons

So I have used Scenes from Home buddy that lets the icons on the home screen turn stuff off and on without going into the Home Buddy app

I wanted everything to be run from the home screen so the back button isn't needed.

So that was all setup then the IP Cam Viewer widget is used (Used a temp cam for photos) to display any cams on screen if you like

Yatse is used to be able to pause and stop and also be a remote for my XBMC as this is at the front door it allows me to stop or pause stuff if someone is at the door or i want to stop while I go out.

Wifi Talkie Lite is used to communicate with the other unit upstairs (Which I don't have) so it's used as an intercom and doesn't need internet access just to be on the same network.

Also I have a Doorbot coming soon too and hope to have a vera lock so i can unlock the door if someone is at the door I want to let in (Say parents visited and i'm at the supermarket etc)

I can go into more detail if needed

Well here's the article they did, just a few sound bites from me here and there, I was a bit disappointed that a PBS station went at the article with the agenda of 'Hackers are going to control your fridge' but I guess that's just typical media these days...

I really hate they are going the whole hackers will unlock your door and possibly steal and rape you route it is sad to see they went that route and didn't show any of the positives.

I also hate how they keep hyperlinking every little thing and the guys whole conversation with how the search engine found a house they are really trying hard to push the negativity.

That really sucks maximus  :dunno

"Joel Griffin Dodd's idea of fun is being able to control his home's air conditioning from the office...."

...long walks on the beach, and snuggling by the fire.

---goshdarn--- it man, the more I read the quotes in there, the angrier I got.

Quote
He said he's tech-literate enough to know how to keep his home safe. Security just isn't a huge selling point for him.

Next time you get interviewed, make sure you have the right to refuse the copy if it's written so hackneyed, that they make you look like a backwoods idiot. I'm sure I'm not the only person who read the invisible, yet implied, "just" in there, prior to "tech-literate enough".

Damn man, I feel terrible for you. That sucks.

Nahhh I'm used to it,  I knew they were going to go that way, it's the media, always wanting something shocking to tell people, it's just a shame that something that would have been better suited to FOX News was in fact on NPR.

Either way I'm flushing my toilet from the office...because that's my idea of fun apparently lol.

If someone really wants to hurt/rob you, it doesn't matter what security systems you use, they're gonna get you.  I'm not super concerned with hackers, but I am concerned with how difficult it is to show the insurance company you didn't let them in.  So my automations stay hard nic'd with capture IPS and IDS systems watching.
