39" Sharp Image Dual Scan help
« on: July 22, 2013, 03:32:43 pm »
Hey everyone,

New to this forum but a long time lurker. Just wanted to say this forum has been pretty awesome with helping me and my friends get our dreamcast hooked up into the big Dynamo Showcase cabinet.  So far so good but we ran into a few snags.

The main issues so far are with the screen color being off and green being huddled into the corner and that we cant adjust the horizontal width and Pin cushion. I know that degaussing the monitor fixes the color and before i purchase a degauss wand I wanted to try and fix the internal one first since there is a button for it.

Here are some pics of the monitor in question.

So i got the dreamcast video out by splicing a VGA cable and modding the output to 15khz and it runs in CGA with the H&V synced together to make a single sync. Same as how the tekken machine was hooked up inside before.

Here is the daughter board in question and all of the solder leads looked good but not sure if some of the wires were mean to be merged like they are.

Everything works on it so far except degauss and Hwidth and pin cushion.

For the Degause i think i found what is wrong with it. Its a big wire hooked up around the monitor but its disconnected.
This is the plug.

And I think it connects to these pins here but not sure if it can be placed on backwards and fry anything. I also circled it on a diagram I have.

Sorry to ask so many questions but I tried to research as much as I could before posting. Thanks again.

you're right about the degauss plug, btw its AC voltage so it does not matter what way round it plugs in

i think the other issues are connected and are a fault on the chassis

Thanks Grantspin degauss is working now after I replaced a fuse and plugged that in. Still got some coloration in the corner but not near as drastic as before. its probably from moving across the city and My friend might have a degauss ring we will try later but for the most part it looks awesome.

Only issue im having now is I still cannot adjust the H-width and pincushion. Ive read somewhere it might be caps or something else. I also found the Hcoil on the motherboard but It cannot be adjusted with a allen wrench or a CRT tool since it looks like it has a block off in it.

Could it be something to do with the dreamcast having the H and V synced together since thats the only way i heard to hook up dreamcast to CGA to make it display.

the horizontal size and pincushion should not be affected by the signal source

that fault on other chassis is either related to caps, transistor in width circuit,east/west correction diodes or ic

i would need to see the schems to get a good idea of what to replace

Cool. Thanks for your help. I was out of town for a few days and my roomate painted the cabinet while I was out. I read the mother board is called the chassis. Should I try and take the whole thing out? I found a thread somewhere with one that looks really similar to mine. Mine is out of a Dynamo Showcase.

http://forums.arcade-museum.com/showthread.php?t=61746

Here are some pictures from that thread.

In that shot you can see that there isnt a screw in that white horizontal voice coil. Thats exactly how mine looks.

I was watching alot of this videos and was thinking of trying it after this weekend when we run a small game session on the cabinet for fun.

http://www.arcaderepairtips.com/2010/03/03/removing-and-installing-a-monitor-chassis/

I would need to discharge everything which doesnt seem to hard and then work to remove the chassis board and go from there.

Ill see if i can find the model number on mine but everything in those pics above looks to be exactly the same almost from what ive seen.
