Picked up a 19" WG D9500 CRT
« on: July 20, 2013, 01:24:10 am »
Still building the cabinet but have been messing around with the CRT with an old xp machine and command line mame but having issues.  Machine is old dell optiplex, on board video, blah blah.

I have xp running at 800x600 and just tinkering with a few old roms like dkong, qix, 10yard, berzerk.

The spec sheet says it supports up to 1024 but I can't get desktop above 800x600.  (see spec screenshot)

I have tried forcing 640 for testing but everything i have done so far the screen comes up like the shot below and I can't ESC out of it.
(using for example:   mame dkong -resolution 640x480@60)
Are there any other command line switches I need to be using?

Any input?  My grand plan is to use hyperspin as the front end and have mame, consoles, pinball, etc. all playable.  Will be using a much faster pc with win7 and a decent gpu.  Do I need an ArcadeVGA?  Would that help or not really for this crt?

I was able to play that robotron clone (mechatron) with no problems at the 800x600 res but thats just a windows game.

Thanks for any input!

Solved my own problem :-)

It was the PC that was not working properly, not the CRT.  I have an HTPC that has a hyperspin collection set up for an xbox360 controller.  I brought it out to the shop to test and all is good!

Glad you got it working. I would like to find one of theses monitors for a cocktail cabinet that I am putting together as a MAME machine. I have the 27" version in my upright. Very easy to connect to a pc and they look great.

Where did you get yours?

That monitor has impressive range of frequency. You can do HD gaming or old school low res classics. Hopefully it holds up for you. I know there were lots of issues with the digital Wells Gardners. But they are great when they work.
