DK masterlist
« on: November 15, 2003, 01:43:33 am »
I think this is an easy question, but I am having a hard time remembering.  In DK I am currently running my mame (for windows) and daphne.  I have a .dat file for daphne, and I know mame doesn't need one.

Is the masterlist the file that DK looks in when a game is launched to determine which emulator it should run?  If this is the case, how would I go about setting up some of my games to be launched in an older version of mame?

I assumed I would need to first, create a new config file lets say mame069b.cfg, and set it up correctly.  Then in the masterlist I would have to look for the games that I want to run on this older version, and change the MAME entry to MAME069B.  This is what I tried, and it did not work.  Even though the master list had MAME069B for a particular game, it still launched it in my most recent version of mame.  I double checked my directories and paths and everything looked good.

I must be missing something, or going about it the wrong way.

Thanks for any help!

What is the file name of the list file that will get updated from the master list?  Is this list file you are talking about the file DK looks in when a game is selected.

thanks

DK doesn't look at any file when a game is selected everything is consolidated into the masterlist.  That is unless you are talking about emulator specific options.  They are in the cfgs directory and you have to make them yourself by copying the default mame.cfg and renaming it to emulator.cfg and editing accordingly.

DK doesn't look at any file when a game is selected everything is consolidated into the masterlist.

This is what I understood, the masterlist is where the information is kept for all the games and their associated emulators.

To get a mame game running under a different version of mame, I first created a .cfg file 'mamexx.cfg' and then I went into the masterlist and changed the 'MAME' entry to 'MAMEXX' for the games I wanted to load with this other version.  Is there anything else I need to do after this because this is not working for me.

One other thing, if I were to re-generate my masterlist from within DK (for a new mame release), won't I loose all the changes I made?

Thanks for your help.

Your not understanding how dk works, I suggest you look over the documentation.

To answer your question, officially you can only run one version of mame in dk at a time.  You can run others, but special mame-only features (like auto dat file generation) aren't supported.  In other words don't treat your secondary mame as a mame version at all, treat it as a normal third party emulator.
