Marquee installation

Hi all,

I hope the images explains my issue more than I can in words!

From the side of the cab the top will not be horizontal but will have a degree of angle.

I don't know much about this part, so could anyone advise me if its best to cut the panels so they form vertical edges, or can it be done without.

Well my cab only had the bottom at an angle, and I just used a regular aluminium L-bracket. You can see the results here: http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,119175.msg1366215.html#msg1366215. I think it looks good, and it is hardly noticable, but that's because its all black on black

I know that others have used plastic retainer that are curved, so then the angle doesn't matter at all.

You'll want to cut the pieces so that their perpendicular to the ground, otherwise your marquee will look hack.

@edekoning - Looks good - and it is definitely not easy to tell, I had to look closely at what you did... Your cab is cool too.

@AJ - Got ya... I think this might be the way to go. God knows how I'm going to cut the angles - I only have pretty basic tools, jigsaw etc... will need some thought!

I used my circular saw (most of them can cut up to 45 degrees).  I matched the angle using one of these:

Then I transfer that to the saw blade and make sure that my measurements are to the correct side of the angle.

Thanks for that AJ - I figured that would be the way to go ... I'll have to see if I know anyone locally that could help out.

I also matched the angle with the same thing AJ did but I used a table saw then to cut it.

Yes yes, this makes sense.  So I do the bottom, because it should be 90 degrees to the ground, and then I use aluminum angle, and I created a press.  So I tak a 2x4 and then a 3/4" MDF and screw it down over one side of the aluminum angle.  Then I bend the aluminum angle until it gets to the right angle that the bottom/top need.  GO SLOW.  If you go fast it will warp and look awkward.  Small little pulls down the bend the aluminum.

I took an angle finder and found the angle of the bottom part of my marquee (non-90 degree) and cut a duplicated angle out of a strip of ply. I placed the ply angle pointing up on my gas grill and pressed the plastic down with hot mits until it conformed to the correct obtuse angle. After it cooled, I spray painted it black and screwed it in, looks great.

Yeap.  No matter how you work it either you'll have to bend the Metal/Plastic to fit your angle or get to a pro machine shop and have them bend it for you.

Think I'm going for the 90° to the floor option. I'll have to see if my local wood supply will help me out with the cut...

Actually, what you can do is measure using an existing board.  Just temporarily install the board and just set the base of the saw manually by eyeballing it.
