Convert b/w battery TV to COLOR
« on: June 23, 2013, 02:56:47 pm »
So Im looking at old 90's boomboxes with b/w tv's in them like this one
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Emerson-XLC-555-5-B-W-Portable-TV-AM-FM-Radio-Stereo-Boombox-VERY-GOOD-/140997923347?pt=US_Portable_Stereos_Boomboxes&hash=item20d4219213

and I was wondering since I can find a color version that looks like a jambox is it likely I could swap the color chassis/tube from another color tv? or are there probably going to be much larger hurdles than a simple switchout.

I watched some youtube videos abou a AAA operated NES and I'm thinking a boombox with an aux in built into the tape deck and NES/Color TV would be pretty bitchin.

thoughts, opinions?

To my knowledge you can't change a b&w CRT to a colour CRT. There are too many differences in design. IE: color phosphor, three electron beams, shadow mask in the tube, not to mention extra circuitry to display a colour image.

It is a nice idea though, making a self contained unit with a tiny tube.

If you swap the chassis and the tube you're replaced the entire TV, so, yeah, it'll work.

I remember those bad boys. My lying ass cousin told me it would play music videos for songs if you put tapes in, but you needed a special adapter. I believed him.

Start your engines bitches

I need a little help in picture 3 - the antenna only has 1 cable that goes to the chassis - i bought a VHF/UHF transformer and connected both leads to the single antenna hookup... is this going to work? Or no?
