Space Invaders Restoration...Is it worth it?
« on: June 19, 2013, 03:59:13 pm »
Hey guys.

I, like many of you, have found an empty cabinet that seems to be in fairly good shape on craigslist.  It is, what looks to be, an original Space Invaders cabinet.  The only thing it has is the cabinet and the CP and coin door.  My questions are many but here are a few.

1.   Will I be able to find the pieces that go into the cabinet?

2.  I know there is the monitor and monitor bezel but what other parts make up the internals of this machine and what are they?

I know this might be a pitfall but for the condition the cab seems to be in it just seems like a great deal for $100.  I could be wrong.  Thanks for the input.

A near empty cabinet, you should be paying more like $25.00 for it, not $100

You could work towards gathering the parts, but only really worth getting the cabinet in that condition for cheap/free considering its current state. Upright cabinet? I have what appears to be originally Space Invaders cocktail, which has been rewired for Jamma.

If you wait around for a 25.00 cab, you will lose out....There are plenty of people who will and do buy them up @ $100.+ (depending on condition)
If you want to get all cheap, do it on the restore....But the question was "is it worth it?" Jennifer would have to say yes, Athough by the time you get it all back together its not going to be a profit maker, Only the satisfaction of a job well done, and possibly your money back.

I would say get it and do a restore. You can find the parts but it may take you a while. What I would do is throw a PC in it to get it playable (without permanently modifying it) and then slowly add the original parts as you get them.

Get it before someone else takes it and cuts it up to make a 60-1....

Hows the artwork on it? Any water damage on the bottom?

Yeah someone unfortunately snagged it.  There was a little wear on the bottom but it was fixable.  The shop who had it has a DKJr. for the same price.  This one is in better shape and I think I will have an easier go of restoring that one.
