Neo Geo emulation question..
« on: November 13, 2003, 12:03:05 am »
I've noticed on both my machines (2.5Ghz P4 and 2400+ XP AMD) that some games slow down A LOT when a lot of stuff is happening on the screen (e.g. first 30 seconds of shock troops 2nd squad).

It happens both in MAME and Nebula (default speed of 12Mhz).

Of course with Nebula I can OC the CPU it emulates, and it plays better.

Was this happening in the arcade as well??

Up to now, I've been playing all my Neo Geo games with MAME on my arcade machine (using ArcadeVGA card connected to real Arcade monitor) and was wondering if there is any benefit for me to switch from MAME to something like Nebula to play games? (again.. 2400+ CPU)

Is Nebula a better emulator than MAME for Neo Geo? Is it more accurate? Can anyone give a good example of any game where I can visually see it? what about the speed?

Thanks!

Actually alot of slowdown occurs on the original neogeo hardware.  Although I have not played shock troopers recently, the same thing happens occasionally in metal slug.  To acheive a full frame rate you should enable cheats and use overclocking in mame.  This makes metal slug nice and quick and I imagine it would help shock troopers as well.
