Dead Or Alive 2 slowdown on Demul
« on: June 02, 2013, 10:28:50 pm »
Using Demul .57, most games run clean, except for Dead or alive 2. It suffers from slow fps and jumps to normal speeds intermittently. I'm using a Win Vista XPS 639 with an i5 dual, and Nvidia GeFore 9800 cards. Has anyone else experienced this problem, or what emulator are you using to run DOA2 cleanly? Thanks for your help.

I'm running Demul .57 on my dual core intel with a far inferior graphics card (single) than you have.

I remember having to tweak each and every game individually for optimal framerate and visual experience.

Try playing with each of the options in the video filter area. I can't remember off hand which set up worked best for me. I can check later and let you know if it's still an issue, but I know Dead or Alive 2 runs smooth for me.

I think I run the game in non-fullscreen as well which may help. It's a bit of a bummer to see the Windows title bar at the top of the screen but the visuals are solid and smooth. Again, I'd have to fire it up and take a closer look at the setup....

Thanks for the tips. I've been playing with the settings on each DirectX plugin, and would love to know what settings you used to get the game to run smooth. I'm still having issues. Thanks!

my experience is to use the 0.56 version to get the 60fps beloved, Demul 0.57 calls for extraordinary video card

Are the games on Demul 57 backwards compatible with 56? Or do I have to get a new romset?

The roms are backwards compatible as far as I know. No new romsets needed for the jump from Demul .56 to .57

I'll check my setting for this game tonight and post back. Maybe that will help you with your issue(s).

So far I don't believe the games are backwards compatible. I found DOA2 for Demul .56 and it runs beautifully. I guess DirectX11 is buggy with certain games. Right now Im incorporating Demul 56 and 57 for the cab, so I can have the best of both worlds.

This doesn't mean that the roms are not backwards compatible. The roms are more than likely the same, but the emulator and it's use of DX11 are what change the game and how it plays and displays.

OK, I checked my settings for Dead or Alive 2.

• USA Bios used
• Run in a Window. Not entirely full screen. The Windows title bar is visible at the very top. I think this was to keep the framerate from stuttering. Did several tests and this config worked best for me. Although my graphics card is NOT DX 11 compliant either.
• Checked the following under the "Video" settings:
-List Sorting
-Modifier
-Use Filter
All other options are UNCHECKED.
• I'm running at a resolution of 1024x768
• 0 Rotation

There you go. I hope that helps.

I kept trying to remember how I addressed this.
It finally came to me that it's one of the games that I'm running on Makaron emulator instead.  :P
(I tried it on Demul, but had the slowdown so switched to Makaron)

IIRC there is some weird issue where if you leave it on the attract mode for a long time, it will crash.

I got the game to work damn near flawlessly on Demul .56. Since its for a cab, a windowed option wasn't really wanted. Thanks for the advice people.
