Xbox to Arcade Questions.
« on: June 02, 2013, 07:33:09 am »
Hey Guys,
I picked up a few xbox consoles recently and was considering arcaderizing them. I have seen a device called a KADE, and also seen the controller hacks, are there any other methods to hack controls to arcade buttons?

Does coinops or other emulators have a way to auto  boot and auto shut off? Is there a way to hide the dashboard boot screens or change it?

Thanks
Jim

Kade is the cheapest option.

By 'auto off' do you mean being able to switch off from the menu rather than just installing a button? I cant see what benefit that would bring as you need a button to switch it on. I'm not sure about coin ops but Vision does have a method to switch off the xbox if that helps.

If you want to disable the flubber (boot screen) you need a modchip or the TSOP flashed, then install a custom bios to disable the flubber and DVD is you wish to remove that. You can also boot straight to coinops or vision by the use of placing shortcuts to the apps in the dashboard folder, make sure you know what you're doing though because if you type it wrong the dashboard wont load and you thren have to run a bootdisc to fix the feck up.

The flubber loads before the dashboard so it needs a custom bios to disable it, softmods cant do this.

The logo you see for the dashboard loads after the flubber, there are skins available for these from places like xbox-hq or xbox-skins (cant link to them because i dont know if there's anything there that shouldn't be)

Tutorials are all over youtube, if you want to run FBA or madmabs emulators google emuxtras, if you want to run with vision or coinops google coinops5, there are of course others out there but those 2 should cover what you want to do. I have no experience in the FBA/Madmabs stuff so cant help you there, coinops is locked so it's either the lite 5gb or full at 60gb you will need. With Vision you are free to add what you want and make your own packs/artwork, there is also packs available like Visionary that comes in at around 15gb, google is your friend here :D

PS

Check out FEU3RSTURMs channel, he has come up with an idea to take videos of things like hyperspin and transfer to the xbox as a .xmv video file so you get the hyerpspin experience without needing a meaty PC to run it.

I thought Toodles was American, Sharpfork here handles the North American sales for Kade.

Depends on what you want to do, if it's to play Xbox games then LCD is best as you can use component for 720p or even 1080i for some media, for emulation then CRT is best, i'm not sure about what cable offers the best solution as RGB Scart is what i use and i dont think it's widely available in the States. Sharpfork is best to ask about that if you PM him about the kade, he runs Xboxes in cabs with CRTs.

My VGA to Component has a delay so I don't get chance to see the flubber.  ;D

Kade is the cheapest option and it is quite versatile.  You could go the X Arcade route and they do go cheap on ebay if you have more than one console, but something simple like a joy and some buttons should be easy as 3.14159265303

Just softmod the boxes and stick CoinOPS 5 Lite and you should have enough room for a few more emulators with that stock drive.
If I had only one wish, it would be for three more wishes.

Thanks guys! My plan is to convert a few into emulator machines that will run mame and some consoles. I think basic coinops should be more than enough. Just not sure on screen.

Are you sure it isn't just because the flubber outputs an interlaced signal even if you force progressive? I get an out of sync message till the flubbers past, then the dashboard pops up in 720p.

-----

Demon-seed, CRT TV's are getting dumped or going for very cheap nowadays, might be best just to get one and compare the image.

component but if you want to go the lcd route look into the custom vga bios.

no clue if it runs on soft mod as I never bothered with that on the xbox becuase the hard mod was always the way to go to for the full options setup and fully compatible with whatever you throw at them.
