ArcadeVGA + SCART-TV - screen doesn't fit
« on: November 12, 2003, 10:11:29 am »
Does anyone use a scart-tv with an arcadevga? I just can't get the picture to fit the tv-screen. Changing resolutions doesn't do a thing.

If you mean some of the picture is 'off screen' (ie the picture shown is too big), that's caused by the fact that TVs have bezels that cover part of the tube. Arcade Monitors display edge-to-edge and aren't covered by thier bezels.

Unless your TV has width or height controls, I don't think there's anything you can do about it.

Thanks. I knew using a scart-tv as arcade monitor sounded too easy. Looks like i have to get a real arcade monitor after all :(.

edit: wait, couldn't i just remove that bezel?

Not necessarily true.  My Sony TV's bezel does not cover any part of the (image-displaying part of the) tube.  Tho I also had a hard time fitting some modes fully on the screen with the AVGA.

Search the web for a 'service mode' code for you TV.  Probably every reasonably modern TV has this mode, which will allow you to adjust the size/position of the image.  The code is usually holding a button down while turning the TV on, or silimar.  How easy this code is to find will depend on your make/model TV.

Hope that helps, I didn't manage to find the code for my particular TV, but then I wanted an arcade monitor anyway so I didn't try too hard...

Thanks Minwah, i'll try that. To enter the service menu was actually my initial idea but then someone talked me out of it.

Just curious ...

Why do you need ArcadeVGA to display on TV ?

I don't have a real arcade-monitor and since Andy described on his homepage that you could actually turn a scart-tv into an arcade-monitor i thought i might just try that out.

its really worth it too. fantastic picture quality!!
also had problem with too big picture, the ArcadeVGA driver settings didnt help much.
luckely there was a service code for my scart TV.

if theres no service code for your tv. there might be some pots like, v-hold h-hold inside the tv itself, (not sure?) also a bit dangerous!!!
if the bezel is blocking the picture, you could remove it and get some smoked plexi  8)

Yeah, the picture quality is great (same as arcade monitor).  I took some pics a while ago, if anyone's interested:

(You can see the top/bottom cut off slightly in some games)

Yup, great picture quality, i can only repeat that. The TV i use at the moment is only temporary (only 14"), i'm still looking for a cheap 21" TV. I just wanted to make sure that my problem could be solved at all. So thank's guys, you helped a lot.
