  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
So today I started looking at the PC games that would be cool in a cabinet. From the "cool indy games" thread, I see that some games need keys (other than escape, and pause, and tab/ options which you shouldn't need to use more than once to set things up) that are not mame default keys (maybe some are too) and cannot be changed. Since MAME and most emus can have changed button maps, I was thinking it may be a good idea to set the cab up to use these alternate keys, instead of the default mame keys, for those that haven't yet set up a cab, or that don't mind changing it around. The keys I found so far are that are needed are: enter, y, n, x, z, c, left shift, del, space. Are there any other keys that are needed for simple PC games?

I was thinking that for a 2 player 7-button cab with a trackball or spinner, this would work:

P1 Start- Y
P2 Start- N
(for selecting Yes/No in some games, like Tartis or Jack O Roids)

P1 Select- F10  (Restart current level in Robotix)
P2 Select- F12  (Restart from level 1 in Robotix)
(The select buttons would mainly be used for console games)

P1 buttons: enter, space, shift, x, z, c, mouse 1

P2 buttons: F4, F5, F6, F7, F8, F9, del (all used in Robotix)

Would any games not work with a setup like this?
