Monitor Specs for Sony Trinitron NTSC
« on: May 23, 2013, 10:36:47 am »
All,

After reading many posts on this site, I appreciate I need to have a deep understanding of my CRT to achieve the best display for arcade resolutions. I have two Sony Trinitron NTSC monitors that I would really appreciate more technical details on, especially to configure for GroovyMAME. I do have the service manuals for both. They are connected from the component outputs to a Crescendo Systems TC1600, then a VGA cable to a VGA/DVI adapter on the ATI HD4670. Running Windows XP 64-bit, GroovyMAME 148u2, and the latest VMMaker.

1.  Sony Trinitron KV-32FS100 (BA-5D Chassis)

2.  Sony Trinitron KV-24FS100 (BA-6 Chassis)

I know many other arcade monitors have detailed information available, as a result of your hard work (and countless hours). I'd really like to take full advantage of these NTSC-only televisions for use in my own arcade cabinet. The service manuals do not have detailed information regarding frequency ranges supported, lines, and similar data required for this "hobby".

What would the CRT specs look like for these monitors (NTSC only)?

Why does the image look "fuzzy" or not as sharp when displaying 15 KHz resolutions? What settings in a service menu may help with this?

Can an NTSC TV be modified via the service menu to change signal type to PAL and NTSC? I see the ID modes can be changed, but not sure what other hardware inside the TV prevents the other frequencies. The only reason for asking is many of the postings here relating to Sony televisions appear to be from members in Europe or elsewhere with PAL / NTSC televisions. Not too much information about NTSC-only modelines.

Lots of questions about these, hope someone can help!

Thank you.
