Looking for Display Identity switching program
« on: May 11, 2013, 09:50:45 pm »
Hello. I have made a two monitor arcade game so that I will be able to play Future Pinball and Visual Pinball in the same cabinet as my Mame games. I have "Display 1" set as my backglass, as I play light gun games on this machine and need something I could aim at 3 or 4 ft away. This causes a problem with Visual pinball, as the playfield can only be displayed on "Display 1" but I have it set up so that "Display 2" is my playfield. Its not a problem with Future Pinball as I can select what is shown on "Display 1" and "Display 2". I can go into control panel and swap the identities of each monitor, thus making my "Display 1" now be "Display 2" and thus allowing me to play Visual Pinball correctly. I need a program that will swap the monitor identities automatically when Visual Pinball starts or with a certain key press combination.

If there is no such program (I have searched google and haven't found what I'm looking for), then how can I set up MAME so that I can play the light gun games on "Display 2"? I can set the games to run on "Display 2" from the mame.ini file but my mouse pointer remains on "Display 1" when I do this.

There is such a program... it came with your video card.  You'll run into issues though as you'll probably have to switch while in the front end and they don't exactly like you to do that.  You might be able to create some sort of launcher that calls the preset first, waits a few seconds and then launches the game, but it would probably look pretty sloppy.

The real solution, which you probably don't want to hear, is to quit trying to play arcade games on a pinball cabinet.

Yeah I'm aware of your setup..... doesn't matter if you put it in a dk cab, that's a pinball rig unless you take the pinball sims (and the headaches that come with them) out of it.  Anyway, hope you luck up and find a workable solution.

Sounds like you're looking for something similar to what I need here.

Have either of you looked at the command-line options for your video cards?
Here is NVIDIA's manual http://developer.download.nvidia.com/SDK/9.5/Samples/DEMOS/common/src/NvCpl/docs/NVControlPanel_API.pdf
There is these utilites http://12noon.com/?page_id=80 and this http://mikinho.com/w7/toggle-display/ as well.
Never met a game I won't keep.
