Trimming marquee plexiglass
« on: April 28, 2013, 12:56:28 pm »
I ordered a marquee from Game on Grafix sandwiched between two sheets of plexiglass.  The one sheet ended up being about 1/8" longer than the other, and while the shorter one is a perfect fit, the longer one is 1/8" too long to fit.  What's the best way to trim off such a small amount?  Saw, file, sand?  Any risk of cracking it?  Any help appreciated before I try something random and break it.

Thanks.

I'd use a table saw if you have one, and I'd put that one you cut on the back side.

Most woodworking tools can be used on plexiglas. I used a plane in a similar situation. Course grade sandpaper will work too. Be careful to hold/clamp it firmly, close to the edge you're working on

Went with a much more primitive solution -- scored it with an exacto knife a few times and then snapped off the edge with pliers.  Worked great.

I would have just flushed it with the router and flush cut bit. You would have had a virtually 100% copy, but you sorted it all the same.. :applaud:

This is pretty much the defacto way of doing it and it works quite well.  Router/table saw work well too but the scoring process is always money if you have the time and patients.
