Rayman Legends Challenges App
« on: April 30, 2013, 03:40:23 am »
So Ubi screwed the Wii U owners by not releasing Rayman on time but they recently released the free "challenges app" as a sort of apology.

In terms of short, arcade-style, gameplay it might be the best thing I've played in years.  Every single day you get two new challenge levels to play.  Think about that for a second... two new levels every day!  Now don't misunderstand these aren't brand new levels with new art, ect... they are re-arrangements of the same two levels murphy's dungeon and night of the livid dead.  Don't let that fool you though.  Much like a Mario game, Rayman levels are made up of various "building blocks" so it's less like a re-hash of a level and more like a Super Mario game where levels are infinitely generated.

Anyway, the challenges vary from day to day.  It involves a speed run through the level where your goal is to gather X amount of lums or to get as far as you possibly can.  Livid Dead levels use traditional platforming, while Murphy's dungeon allow you to use the gamepad touch screen to move various obstacles out of the way.  The actual avatar is either controlled via the computer, or you can optionally have a second player control it manually.  So in this mode you've got one person roaming through a level while another is rapidly moving and toggling deadly gates and obstacles.  So yeah, it's Gyromite... and I LOVE that.

All attempts are nationally and globally ranked.  I'm currently around 14,000 in the world out of the top 80,000 which I think is pretty good considering it just came out.

You get trophies after the results come in, which give you points eventually unlocking two additional levels brining it up to a total of 4 new levels a day.

Check it out... it's free and surprisingly fun considering what a small app it is.

The easiest way to describe it would be Super Mario Bros. + Gyromite + Robot Unicorn Attack

dont have a wii-U but went through mgs4 2 months ago and probably the best shooter I played in years even know I am years behind it.

I have played through many many more current and they sucked in comparison.

I alway's been a mgs fan though of the series with number to them.

all the side one's are stupid to me even the latest with one arm ninja guy, also the part I did not care for in mgs4 and could have been better without as that was just way to much far fetchness for ol snake and made the whole game go into a differnt direction after that dragon balls z wantabe showed up.

jimmy wang yu did that back in the 70's kung fu already with the one armed boxer, one armed swordsman etc.  :laugh2:

I sold off my current gen stuff recently though I came to the conclusion I have way to much money into the new stuff and way way to large of a backlog to play that are all pretty much classics now lol.

in the end though I find myself playing them way more then any of my ps3 360 and wii and dont have time for them when I am alway's playing older console's.

their more challenging and fun to me as the new one's are all the same thing anymore and pretty much like playing a madden 1982-2027 its just the same ol same ol anymore with all of them to me and no different then big mouths series year after year.

I recently played through the god of war series and they were great classics and better then any current gen series.

even resident evil is crap anymore.

thank god they listened and brougt back somewhat 2d fighting games becuase them 3d SF's and MK's were retarted too and have nothing thier almost 20 year old great gran dads had going on.

the 3d's I could not get into at all and they looked even worse then thier prior 2d's.

gears and creeds were cool but enough's enough with them already now lets bring something new to the table like they were when they came out not make 5 more and every other game we sell the same thing with a different background and charector again and again and again,

another thing is I have not found a current gen that cannot be beat within a few days where I can name hundred of classics I have not finished in 20 years and still give them a whirl to date trying.

castlevania is another, what are they doing these day's as a 2d version on a blue ray disk size filled would be nice yes?

or how about super metriod II on roids with todays 2d power? no lets just do another blocky 3d with a different background, soundtrack and charector agian.....and.....again...WAIT ONE AGAIN!!!

That's cool.

I think it's a language barrier thing but sometimes we can't tell if you are trolling or not.  ;)

Resident Evil is actually pretty good even the latest one.  I got flamed for it, but it's a good game.  It isn't the best RE to be sure, but it's certainly fun and playable.  People didn't like it because it tried some different things (very shooter-centric in some sections) but I'd rather a franchise try to do something different then do the same thing over and over.  I equate that to Mortal Kombat.  When MK was good, every single sequel ran on a totally different engine and had slightly different gameplay mechanics.  Sometimes it was a total dud (like mk4) but at least they were putting in the effort.  When it started to get stale was the Xbox era when they used the same engine and character models for three games.

Revelations comes to the home consoles later this month, and it was universally loved... so look forward to that.

Rayman's old school 2s platforming, just in HD like you were talking about.  Mind you it's almost exactly the same as the game released a few years ago on the 360/wii, but still.
