Clear Buttons
« on: April 22, 2013, 11:40:17 pm »
So, I am looking to do something with clear buttons and RGB LED's. I have found the following buttons and would like some feedback from some of the more experienced users on the boards. Who has used what? What's the better buy? Thinking about frankensteining the buttons to do clear rings with solid plungers. This means twice the buttons though!

If you're going to go RGB, I'm a big fan of the first one listed. See Nephasth's award-winning "The Two-Headed Beast" for one example of how to do it right. I used a lot of the same concepts in my own builds.

Thank you for the heads up! I remember seeing that cab (awesome by the way!). I'll have to go have another look.

Note that when lighting seimitsu/sanwa buttons, you will see an unsightly X-shaped shadow from the bottom of the plunger. This is because the plunger is a transparent shell with a colored inner plunger that will transmit some light. The under side of those inner plungers are shapped like an X, as it provides support and holds part of the vertical microswitch. See this post for an example, and how I fixed it http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php/topic,121965.msg1323726.html#msg1323726. Note that I used the red and purple Seimitsu buttons, but the same should apply to the white one as well.

If you plan on using Paradise Arcade's Uilas for the Seimitsu buttons, they are out of stock, so prepare to wait, and wait, and wait. I've been waiting for over 4 months now

Thank you for the link and heads up on the backorder. How does the painted buttons hold up to extensive play?

Nephasth, LOVE your cab!  :notworthy:
I will most likely be picking you brain periodically as I move forward with my build!!

Don't know yet, as my cab is not finished yet. It got postponed due to house renovation stuff (new kitchen, new floor, new garden, painting, etc). But I don't foresee any issues, as the painted surface of the inner plunger is not moving/rubbing against the outer plunger.

New option from Paradise: http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/il-translucent-buttons/809-clear-il-translucent-pushbutton-psl-l-0855742002757.html

 :notworthy:

Well, this looks like what I am after!  :applaud:

The only option is "Add to Wishlist" at this time though? I'll have to email Paradise and see what the availability is.

So for my CP this is what I am thinking:
Player 1 Start Button
Player 2 Start Button
Admin Button
Player 1: Joystick + 7 button layout
Player 2: Joystick + 7 button layout

            O         O         O
     0       o o o       0       o o o
     |      o o o         |      o o o
           o                      o

So, that means I need:
17 Buttons:http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/il-translucent-buttons/809-clear-il-translucent-pushbutton-psl-l-0855742002757.html#] http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/il-translucent-buttons/809-clear-il-translucent-pushbutton-psl-l-0855742002757.html#
17 RGB LED's:http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/button-leds/100-il-lumination-rgb-5vdc-led-0855742001002.html] http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/button-leds/100-il-lumination-rgb-5vdc-led-0855742001002.html
1 P1 Button:http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/il-imprint-buttons-white-and-black/322-black-il-1-player-imprint-pushbutton-psl-l-0855742003228.html] http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/il-imprint-buttons-white-and-black/322-black-il-1-player-imprint-pushbutton-psl-l-0855742003228.html
1 P2 Button:http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/il-imprint-buttons-white-and-black/326-black-il-2-player-imprint-pushbutton-psl-l-0855742003266.html] http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/il-imprint-buttons-white-and-black/326-black-il-2-player-imprint-pushbutton-psl-l-0855742003266.html
2 Sanwa Joysticks (undecided. input welcomed!):http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/47-sanwa-joysticks
2 Toppers: http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/sanwa-35mm-balltops/187-sanwa-lb-35-solid-black-ball-top-0855742001873.html

I haven't finished my MAME yet and was going to put a 360 or PS3 in the CAB for now, what are the general thoughts on these: or

If I put the Console (360/PS3) I will need something like this: http://www.paradisearcadeshop.com/en/video-converters-and-tools/54-yuv-vga-to-cga-converter-gbs-8150-0855742000548.html

Also need a controller for the RBG LED's, but that will have to wait until the MAME is up and running correct?

The only option is "Add to Wishlist" at this time though? I'll have to email Paradise and see what the availability is.

They're available. You just have to click "Customize Product" first, then select the button color (White is the only option, but they'll be just like what is pictured), then select your microswitch force, then you'll be able to click "Add to Cart".

Also need a controller for the RBG LED's, but that will have to wait until the MAME is up and running correct?

You do need a controller, but you don't have to wait until MAME is running. The PACLED64 has the ability to run an independant animation without being hooked up to a computer (as long as you've got it hooked up to power).
