Defiance, Anyone watching?

Anyone watching Defiance?  It reminds me of Firefly and has the same wild west type feeling and setting.  Lots of alien races but all bipeds so far except the animals/insects. (Shades of Startrek)

Wrong franchise... it's totally Deep Space 9 a bunch of races that aren't supposed to get along living and working in a broken down space statation ...err I mean city, yeah that's totally DS9.

The acting is good which is saying something for a science fiction series and REALLY saying something for a series on SyFy.  Thus far the setting and the competent actors are the only thing it has going for it, but we'll see.  I liked the fact that they opened with some old school country music.  They could have easily ruined my impression of the show by playing hip-hop/techno or whatever.

What worries me is the lack of common sense from episode 1.  Ok the earth got terra-formed, so how come humans can still breathe?  The only viable reason to terra-form a planet is to change the climate/atmosphere.  If all the aliens can already breath on earth then it's just a rather lame excuse to have a bunch of weird trees and animals on the show.  That's not a good sign.

It would also be nice if one, just one high-budget scifi show wasn't some post-apocalyptic nightmare.  Jericho, Falling Skies, that new one about the power grid, the walking dead, ect.... Seriously is post apocalyptic earth the new space ship?

So it has a lot of potential and I'm hopeful but considering I knew exactly what was going to happen throughout the entire 2 hour premiere just by the first 5 min of the show I'm a little worried in terms of the writing.  It's the first syfy produced show in decades to have actual aliens that look like actual aliens though, so I"ll give it the benefit of the doubt.
