Sharp manfactures a 23.1 4:3 LCD!
« on: April 18, 2013, 08:41:44 am »
Hello,
Was looking for a bartop monitor and i found this panel:
http://www.panelook.com/modelsearch.php?op=advancedsearch&order=panel_id&by=desc&pagesize=50&production_state=1&inch_low=20.0&aspect_ratio=1.33&color_saturation=-1&order=panel_size_inch&by=desc
It is for industrial use, but has a 1600x1200 resolution and a very wide viewing angles due of the strange tech it use.
The problem is, how can i order a industrial panel like that? And how to control it? I suppose it come without any electronics , osd, etc.
I realize this is a problem for many, because crt is cool but is dramatically big, and this 23.1 panel can ben very interesting!

Well, they may have at some point.  Dunno if they still do.  Good luck buying one (especially ONE).  I guess you can put out an RFQ, but unless somebody has stock, you won't be getting one.  Nobody's going to turn up a line to make ONE panel for you, especially not Sharp or NEC, at least not at any price you're willing to pay.

Panel interface appears to be LVDS/OpenLDI/PanelLink.  This is quite common internally but is not a consumer standard.  You'll need some sort of scaler/driver board.  They're not overly complex, but they can cost a pretty penny.  Somebody did recently find some on eBay direct from China for like $25 that took DVI or analog RGB (VGA).  YMMV with those.

Honestly, I'm far more intereted in the NEC one at 2560x1600.  That's an actual improvement over what I had 10 years ago.

Obviously i can't buy ONE (a box contains two panels BTW), but if many are interested maybe we can pool. Because this is simply the BIGGEST 4:3 LCD display in production by now.

Note that they are PANELS and not MONITORS.

You'll need to provide a backlight inverter, OpenLDI signal, etc.; all the supporting infrastructure required to make the monitor function.

Just look for a Sammy 214t on eBay, 21.3" IPS 178 degree viewing angle in both planes, same resolution, looks amazing, I put one in Little Ms. Pac-Man, found it on eBay for $60+ shipping

Actually it uses a LVDS interface, controller board like this are common on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/LVDS-VGA-DVI-AV-HDMI-LCD-controller-board-DIY-2662-/271178093976?pt=US_Server_Boards&hash=item3f23795598
And it's just led backlit no need inverter, but i don't get if is possible to connect it at a standard atx psu. I'm not good enough in electronics...

If it's got pins, yeah likely you can and easily.
