I think I have a BAAAAAAAAAD power outlet in my kitchen.

I lost my Time Pilot monitor a few weeks ago. I thought it was a fluke, or a random occurence, or it was just time for that monitor to go.

But now I lost another monitor on that same outlet.

I plugged up my Tournament Solitaire to that outlet, turned it on, I was waiting for it to boot and I noticed that the monitor wasn't on.

I pulled the monitor, checked it out, and it is totally dead. No neck glow, no HV sound, nothing. Both fuses that I could find were in good shape.

For now I stuck a 14" PC monitor in the game (same thing really anyway, a 13" VGA arcade monitor and a 14" PC monitor are the same thing in a different housing). I am going to look into moving the guts of it onto the frame from the other one.

I am not plugging ANYTHING else into that outlet, and I think I am gonna buy some more surge protectors and put them on every outlet in the place.

Why not just go to Home Depot or Lowe's and buy a new outlet? If you suspect this outlet to be goofy then replace it with a new one as they only cost $1.

Probably wouldn't hurt to pick up an outlet tester and check the outlet in question.

I would measure the voltage coming out of the outlet.  If you are in the USA, Canada, or Mexico, it should be between 110V and 125V.    If you are in most parts of Europe, or australia it should be between 210V and 240V.     If you are in Japan it should between 95V and 105V.    Other parts of the world vary.  Check with your power company for the correct voltage in your area.


I would also pick up an outlet tester, to see if the hot and ground ended up being swapped.

You may want to have an electrician come check the plug as well.

In addition, you may want to consider a UPS if the voltage is erratic, or if you have continued problems.

Well, the Time Pilot is a cocktail, and IS my kitchen table. The Solitaire was just being worked on in the largest open area in the place, which was near the kitchen, and thus the kitchen outlet got used.

A time pilot cocktail! I weep with envy.  Haven't seen one of those since I was a kid.  But, anyways, if the current's dirty you should get a uninterruptible power supply (UPS).  They filter the power, in addition to providing basic surge protection.

Hee hee, I am suprised you even saw a Time Pilot cocktail back when you were a kid. The dedicated Time Pilot cocktail had a tinier production run than many of the legendary games like "Quantum". The highest serial number one known to still exist is number 000011, which was on ebay a while back. Mine is number 000007.

Of course Time Pilot was a pretty popular conversion game too, lots of conversion Time Pilot cocktails around.
