  • I want to build my own arcade controls!
On my current update of my MAME cabinet I have decided that I want a dual screen setup to use Full Screen playfields vs the desktop playfields that I was using. I wanted to add a second monitor to display the backglass/score images and to play MAME games on. I don't want the MAME games displaying on playfield monitor, as I play several lightgun games. Through my searches I have not found any two monitor setups, except for HyperPIN. If they would combine HyperPIN with HyperSPIN, it could solve most of my problems. Is there a front end that will allow me to do this?

Thanks

You could ask GriffinDo- er, Maximus how he did it on The Revolution.

This is very similar for what I want to do. Maybe he has provided enough info from previous post to give me a good starting point.

Thanks

I do not have room for a rotating monitor in my cabinet, plus his MAME games played on the lower LCD. I would be fine with menus and control panel info being displayed on the lower screen (playfield area for the pinball games) as long as I could get the MAME games to run on the upper LCD screen (backglass for the pinball games).

if you have multiple monitors you can edit the mame.ini to specify which screen to use to display on.

A rotating screen is irrelevant.  The games will play on whatever monitor you want them to.
No front end is going to set all this up for you automatically though, if that is what you're looking for.
It's going to take dozens of hours of research and work on your part to get it to behave the way you want.
This ain't a plug-n-play hobby.

You aren't going to want to hear this, but what you are trying to do will be very difficult.

As usual MAME isn't the problem as it lets you configure things how ever you want.  Visual Pinball is going to be a problem though.  It basically forces you to run a certain screen as the primary monitor with a certain orientation.  This is ok for a mame/visual pinball setup only but you'll probably run into issues with your front-end and any other emulators you choose to add.

I'm not saying it can't be done... it certainly can, but it's going to be a headache.

Okay folks, thanks for your help. I have an understanding now on what files I need to mod to get this project up and running.

I got the machine setup with dual monitors yesterday. To make things simple, I used the back display (backglass) as display 1 and the lower display (playfield) as display 2. With this setup, I had to abandon Visual Pinball at this time and install Future Pinball. This was the only way I could see being able to play the light gun games on the machine also. I need to install HyperPin and mate it up with HyperSpin now that I have it up and running.  I would have linked the two yesterday, but I'm still having problems with the Future Pinball program at this time.

I cannot get the playfields and backglasses to display correctly in full screen mode. If I have both of them windowed, they are correct. If I change one or both to full screen, they overlap each other on the bottom screen or get a black square on the top screen depending on what is full vs windowed.

Here is a pic of my machine as it sits now.
