light gun interface...any options?
« on: April 09, 2013, 03:01:23 pm »
i searched around a little, but couldn't find anything current (probably not a good sign).  I have a happ lightgun that I'd love to use with my mame cabinet.  Are there any USB arcade gun interfaces available?  I have a CRT TV with component video that I am using as my monitor, and i have messed around using guncon 2s in the past, but i'd love to have a real arcade gun.  I found reference to a few usb gun interfaces that were "coming soon" in threads from 2008, but nothing newer than that?  did this ever come out?

is there anything out there?  or am I just out of luck?

I think what you're looking for MIGHT be the Aimtrak from ultimarc: http://www.ultimarc.com/aimtrak_module.html

i'm aware of the aimtrack, and have been contemplating them for years, but i have a CRT monitor, i'd love to use a traditional style light gun if possible.

They are getting hard to find, but Act Labs S-video guns can work on composite or S-vid.

I seem to recall seeing a post about the old playstation guns working on component video if you installed them on the green connector.
Not sure if the act labs ones work that way, but I've always been curious.  I'll try to find time to test it this weekend.

I picked up a spare pair that both shoot 2 inches too high compared to my old ray-gun style ones.   ???
I was hoping to transplant them into Happ recoil shells and a big buck hunter shotgun someday.

yeah, i have some of the PS2 guns (namco guncon 2) connected via the green component video cable, and i was able to get them working, but i really would like to use a real arcade gun.  when i bought my empty showcase cabinet a few years ago, it came with a happ gun, that has just been collecting dust in my basement.  i'd love to put it to good use.  I'm afraid to let my kids use the guncons because i'm sure they'll break them.
