LED blinky weirdness
« on: April 06, 2013, 01:39:44 am »
hey guys,

putting the finishing touched on my nephews cab, lit buttons and i'll be good to deliver.

on his machine, i am running xp 64bit with two LED wiz's.  In the control editor, as an example, i've turned on P1B1 to red for the atari 2600.  when i actually run blinky and pick a 2600 game, all of the buttons light up and I mean ALL of them, all of P! buttons and all of P2 buttons.

i copied the blinky controls from my arcade set up which worked just fine.  on my machine i was running only one wiz, on my nephews, i'm running two.  i'm also wondering if it may be an xp64 thing as on my cab i was running 32bit.

anyone have any suggestions for me?

thanks

Hey Tony,
Win XP 64bit should not be a problem.

What do you mean by i copied the blinky controls from my arcade set up which worked just fine? For a new control panel you would need to create a new Device/Port Input map.

Have you tried the troubleshooting app?

thanks for the reply arzoo.  i wasn't clear.  what i meant was i set it up the exact same way as i did on my box.  i did create a new device/port input map.  in the set up, everything works fine.  port 1 red, port 2 green, port 3 blue for each button.  when i test each port, the button lights up with the correct color.

my pre-command to start blinky is the same as it was on my box.  for instance, running stella, LEDBlinky.exe <default> stella.  i have it set up so <default> of stella is only one button and it's red.  when it runs, all the lights turn on, weird.  i have two wiz's, they are dev1 and dev2.  this is a strange one indeed.

Did you try the troubleshooting app? If that doesn't help you can send me the debug.ZIP file and I'll check what's going on.

hey arzoo.

one problem solved, i was trying to launch it as i did before with a pre-command line.  i DL'd again and followed the instructions to install as a plug in.  i've set up stella successfully but mame is weirding out on me, only p1 start lights up.  when i exit mala, i have a window telling me blinky has errored, would i like to open the log?  in the log, it says it can't find the "controls.ini" file.  yet, i have the controls.ini file and i have pointed the Configurator to where it's at.

any help i appreciate, thanks arzoo.

Is it possible you have LEDBlinky installed in two locations and the FE is running LEDBlinky from a different folder than where you are setting the configuration? That's the only explanation for the "can't find controls.ini" error. Either that or the file no longer exists at the specified location.

Could it have to do with how you are launching it?

Some (poorly coded) programs/fes/ect don't set the path before they launch an app, so the app doesn't know where it's at.  So if you are launching the app via something else, try it via the good old command line first to make sure your launcher isn't the issue.

EDIT:  never mind, i think I have it sorted.  let me do some testing tonight and i'll report back what my stupidity was.

yup, idiot on my part.  i triple checked all paths and now it's working like a charm.

that said, there is still some issue.  when starting a game, it takes much longer than it should and i believe it's blinky causing the delay.  when i exit to desktop, it says there were errors and if i would like to check the log.  i have attached the log.  seems ALL of my cfg's are erroring out.  fyi, i created the cfg's with cfg magician 1.62.

any clue as to what may be causing this?  FYI, i have recreated all my cfg files three times now and still the same thing.

The cfg files should be generated by mame. I don't have any knowledge of cfg magician, but it seems from the error log that the format is not the same as what mame would generate.
