Proactive Maintenance for Rowe 61024903 Amplifier?

Hi All,

     Thanks for sharing your knowledge here, this forum has been so helpful in getting my personal CD-100G jukebox running well!

     To prolong its life, I've since removed the deteriorating foam from my 40832201 CCC and added a removable battery holder (to avoid acid damage) and v4.3 chip.

     Is there any kind of proactive maintenance I should consider for my 40879001 power supply or my 61024903 amplifier?  I don't have great skills (yet), but I just hate to watch and wait for these vintage parts to start smoking and possibly take several other parts with them!

Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated and thank you!  Djyas in the USA

the 40879001 power supply has a few different revisions of boards. some are better than others. The later versions seem to be the best designed. What's the revision of your board I'll see what i can find out... perhaps I may have a later revision. the later ones are a little better at filtering the power using better regulators with power feedback and compensation.

as far as the amp goes... there isn't much you can do. when it goes, it goes. not much do do there.

if you properly load the amp you won't have any issues with it. COMPLETELY IGNORE ALL THE MANUALS CALCULATIONS REGARDING SPEAKER WATTAGE. it just doesn't work that way and i hope whomever thought that was the way to do it got fired. if you plan on hooking up external speakers, send me a note. I'll tell you how/if you can.

I have never found acid damage on these boards or fo that matter any of the CCC used from the R-89 onwards.

The power supply pcb's were prone to dry joints on the connection pins (usually the ones from the transformer).

lilshaw is correct in some respects re the extension speakers but care must be taken in how you connect them with regards to the loading. It must never be below 4 ohms per channel. On very large sites you can wire in loads of speakers by series and parallel connections of the said speakers, just get it right.

Fortunately, I am very happy with the CD-100G's sound and will not be adding an external or remote speakers.  I was surprised to find what appears to be cloth surrounds on the unit's lower OEM woofers.  The manuals and other comments led me to believe I would have found foam surrounds, which should have dry rotted years ago!

the speakers used in the rowe jukes are pretty decent quality.

The subwoofer box leaves much to be desired from an acoustic design point of view, but still not bad. But that said, if I had one of my own, I would almost certainly chop out the sub box and build a proper ported box. Then again, I like to annoy my neighbors more than most people.
