Can someone give me their mamewah dir zipped?
« on: November 08, 2003, 11:42:03 pm »
I want to run mame and daphne with mamewah. Can someone just zip their working mamewah directory and port it somewhere so I can download it? or even email it to me? I'll change the cfg files to point to my directories (c:\mame and c:\daphne)

Thanks. I like mamewah, but the setup is a relative pain.

Unless you hiave exactly the same set of ROMS and the same setup as someone else, their dire3ctory isn't going to help you.
Mamewah setup is really not that bad.
Follow Stuzza's instructions for the setup, there is a link in the "news" section of the amweah web page
Or try mamewah setup, there is a thread about it in this forum

If you can configure it to change your directorys you can configure it from scratch. Its one the easy front ends to configure if you ask me. Though I do wish it came with a default configuration where you would just have to put your files in the right directorys, like mame32.  If your having trouble configuring it through the emulator try editing the cfg files with notepad. I was able to read and understand those better at least untill I learned how it worked better.

You do need to make sure that you have your emulators working properly before trying to run them with the front end. Thats proably the biggest mistake I've seen.
My statements are my own opinions. They have the value that the reader gives them. My opinion of my opinion varies between foolish and brilliant and these opinions often change with new information.

ok guys - I'll give it another whirl. I typically get errors with the layout stuff...but like others have mentioned, I open the layouts in the editor and save them...then it works better.

The main isssue is daphne. I'll mess with it.

I don't have Daphne setup atm.  There was a thread within the last few weeks that should cover it tho - try looking back through a few pages on the board.

soslo,

I tinkered with Daphne for a long time before I got it working the way I wanted it.

1. tried PC as emulator to run LNK files -- doesn't work in win98se

2. tried using BAT files. Mamewah would execute the batch file then resume in the background. When I would exit Daphne, the screensaver would already be active in Mamewah.  Worse, if I chose to have music during the screensaver in Mamewah, Daphne would grind to a halt as Mamewah accessed my MP3 directory (even though I couldn't hear the music)

3. tried BAT files using :"Start /wait" to run the bat files.  This forces Mamewah to wait until the batch file is finished executing. I got inconsistent results. Sometimes it would work,  usually the game would only launch the first time then it wouldn't work.

4. Someone suggested Batchrun.  That's what I use now.  Since there are not that many games supported by Daphne, it's not that tedious to set up.  For each game, I created a batchrun file that changed to the proper directory then ran daphne with all the commandline parameters I want for each game, then returned to Mamewah.  (Batchrun can execute commands sequentially and wait until each is completed before it starts the next). So I use batchrun.exe as the emulator and run the files I create as the roms.

If I had to do this for 100 games or 1000 games, it wouldn't have been practical.  But for a dozen games, not so bad.

good luck,

Rocky
