Switchres behaves odd with some games
« on: March 28, 2013, 04:11:04 pm »
I'm running the latest Groovymame 0148u2 build for windows and I noticed something odd with some games, like Frogger or mooncrest.

At first switchres creates the crorrect modeline, but within a blink of the eye a secoden modeline is created, wich gives a terrible small and flickering image. But for instance Zaxxon and Galaxian, which use the same resolution as Frogger, do play corrcetly. See the attachment for more info. Why is that and how to solve it? I have tried different 'monitors' in the mame.ini, like generic_15, arcade_15 and ms929.  Oh, and I am using a vertical orientated monitor.

post the results of: gcmame -v frogger

you can put the results in a text file with: gcmame -v frogger > frogger.txt

OK, I found the reason for the strange behaviour. It has to do with the artwork folder in my mame folder, in which all the 'in-game' artwork files are. Although I had disabled the use of artwork in the mame.ini, and even did put a .; for the artwork path, the Mame.exe did still call it.

So instead of deleting it, I renamed the artwork folder in 'artwork backup' and now everything is cool. Frogger, Mooncrest and probably others play as they should, with the correct switchres behaviour.  :applaud:
