Light Guns - Worth The Money?
« on: March 19, 2013, 02:33:18 pm »
Getting closer to finishing up my Mame Cabinet and I thought..."Light Guns would be a fun addition."  But then I started looking at the prices and holy crap I was not prepared for that  :)  If anything I'd buy 2 guns and more and likely the Ultimarc ones and they seem to be pretty sturdy and easy to setup.  BUT does the LGs hold attention long enough to warrant spending that kind of dough?  I did a search and found about 70+ games...I'm sure not all of them would interest me but others would.  I know this is a preference but what do you guys think?  What are your thoughts?

thanks,
Rich

I plan on adding a couple of AimTraks to my cab soon. And honestly, I think once I do, shooting games will most likely dominate what is played on the cab.

I picked up all the Digital Leisure laserdisc gun games to use with the AimTrak. Not only do I have the MAME games, but I'll also have Mad Dog McCree and more.

I just added a gun to my cabinet this past weekend . I didn't like to looks of the pre-made guns, so  I hacked a cheap Lethal Enforcers type gun. I removed the original light sensor and replaced it with an Aimtrak. I plan to post pics and part list soon. Not counting the USB port that I already had installed under the control panel, it cost me about $70.

I added a Aimtrack to my cab when I had a 20" PC CRT monitor and it worked okay, It didn't feel 100% to me but it worked great. Setting it up was easy but.... I had issues with the USB disconnecting while using it mid game and I found out that using cheap USB cables and extensions was causing the issues. I now have a 24" CRT and I have yet to set it up again, I imagine it will be a better experience because of the bigger screen.

Let me know how that goes.  I only have a 19" LCD so I fear it might be too small.  thanks!
