OutRun & Pole Position Gears
« on: March 18, 2013, 09:28:59 am »
On Outrun and Pole Position, if I have bezel=1 then I see an image of the gear lever (Pole Position) and HI/LO indication (Out Run).

how do I see these without bezel being on - i.e. how do I get an on-screen indication of what gear I'm in (which I'll need to play the game until I've a physical gear lever which makes it obvious)?

Hi!
   Iīve got the same question!

   I have a nice 16:9 Outrun Bezel and when I use it I canīt get the Hi/Lo image...Is this Hi/Lo image imcompatible with Bezels? Is is another "invisible" Bezel?

Thank you in Advance!

This helps (a bit) - its seems to be part of the "overlay", so overlay=1 in the artwork section of mame.ini? Not sure where the images come from though.

Also, maybe removed in mame 0.148? I don't think I've seen them since I've upgraded (though I've had bezels etc. off too for a while until recently investigating this.

Some artwork in mame is actually built into the exe, this is the case for the high/low shifter in a lot of games.

I suggest you contact Mr. Do over at mameworld.  He is the caretaker of all things artwork.

Not since the late .80s or so. They're artwork-artwork.

No there not.... you have that OPTION, but the basic shifter is internalized.  I'm running .148.... just fired it up, I have the option of turning on a shifter in the bottom left and bottom right corners.  Some of the drivers have the internal shifter, some don't.

After downloading the artwork file which contains a custom shifter image.

It looks like this for the shifter section of the lay file:

Code: [Select]
<bezel element="shifter" inputtag="IN0L" inputmask="0x02">
<bounds x="4050" y="2054" width="700" height="781" />
</bezel>

See the inputtag and inputmask sections?  Those are going to be unique for each game.  So like I said, contact Mr. Do and stop arguing.  ;)
