Where to buy old consoles like NES & Sega Saturn?
« on: March 17, 2013, 12:06:57 am »
Aside from ebay or Craigslist? Are there any reputable sites with reasonable prices? I'd like to pick up a working NES console & maybe a working Sega Saturn console as well.

Try pawn shops or thrift stores.  Or 2nd hand video game shops.

I've gotten some pretty good stuff (consoles and games) just by letting people know that you're interested in old game (e.g. Facebook or in casual conversation). Some people would rather give their 'old junk' (to them) to a friend/acquaintance than deal with strangers on eBay/craigslist or tossing it away.

I always offer some money but they're often just content to get rid of it.

good call!

Ive gotten a ton of stuff that way (most recently a working NES for free!). Also, you can post a WTB thread in the classified section on this very site.

I used to get stuff that way before Ebay became mainstream.  Nowadays people ask me what their stuff is worth and then bring it to Ebay.  Everybody thinks their Genesis with 5 games is worth $75 now.

I was looking for the same thing, found this as an alternative.

Comes with 2 wireless controllers, but also 6 ports for the old ones too.

(I know the thread is REALLY old, but I thought the link might be useful.)

It seems to me that most, if not all, of the clones tend to use the same SoaC for the consoles. Meaning they all suffer from the same game support problems and other bugs. I did a cursory search and lost interest when the reviewer wrote that the wireless control "use the same infrared technology to communicate with the console as the Wii". ---smurf--- considers himself a hardcore gamer and has no clue how the Wii works never mind the ---smurfy--- IR connection in a day and age when even 950MHz hardware is dirt cheap?? I don't need to know what's in it, if they cut corners there they cut corners on the SoaC, therefor it's crap.

I have that.  The cartridge slots provide no physical support at all for the cartridge.  If you jostle the thing even slightly after the first week the game hangs because the cartridge loses connection.  The controller ports are good but if the game is barely playable that doesn't matter.

I have been a Freecycle moderator for nearly ten years.  Old game consoles offered on my list have been few and far between over the years.  In fact I have seen more arcade games than consoles come through.

I have had great luck very recently on Facebook.  Town based "yard sale" groups are popping up like crazy.  It's mostly recent systems but I picked up a barely touched 320gb PS3 for $120 last week.  I'm seeing Wiis going as low as $25.  Games all over the place.
