mame controller woes
« on: March 14, 2013, 04:59:53 am »
Hi all, I have sold my mame cab and building another with a Namco Excellena cab, removed the CRT, installed a LCD amongst other things.

As per usual I am building on a budget so used 2 generic gamepads hack to arcade hardware, have done this many times no issues.

My gamepads are both recognised in windows, mapped (ie physically hacked) to my buttons correctly etc.

I can navigate around Mameui fine and execute games with gamepad #1, thats the way I like it. I dont want hyperspin etc on this cabinet as happy with Mameui after a few tweaks etc.

The issue I have is that my left/right action doesnt remove the OK screen after starting a game. I have mapped the controllers in mame and once past the OK screen I can play games fine. Like I said I have done this many times beofre with no issues.

Am using mameui 147.

Only thing I can think of is that the hacks are via the POV hats. Mame works fine with POV hats though so unsure why its not working.

I have tried xpadder, ppjoy and joy2key, all of which dont work in mame.

Is there a way I can remove the need for the ok screen, if answer is to compile my own then dont worry I cant be arsed. Maybe someone is kind enough to do this for me?

Is there a way to allow joy2key to work in mame without recompiling with raw input disabled then dont worry either.

Seriously this is doing my head in  :banghead:

Thanks

Not sure if this is the issue, but did you map the UI Left, UI right, as well as the game controls?

Hi Badmouth, yes both are mapped.

Navigating the Mameui GUi works, navigating the mame ui and game controls work fine also.

Thanks

Just gave it a try with mameui64 v.148.
Default was mapped to the analog stick, so only the analog stick worked.
Remapped UI left and right to the Dpad for all games and the next time I launched a game the DPAD worked for "OK".
Just in case we're not on the same page, I took a pic of the menu.
Could still be something weird about the build you are using.

It worked. Usually I dont use the POV hat for hack so all the other ones I did via the x/y yaxis worked by default.

Learn something new every day  :applaud:

Thanks Badmouth
